Kitchen & Laundry Before Renovation
Can lights in ceiling were gold trimmed when we moved in.
We removed these upper cabinets and a portion of the wall above. The pink countertops were something special.
Living room wall to the kitchen removed. We kept the shelf and wall above.
The original owner was very short, so the upper cabinets were hung very low, too low for a mixer or coffee maker to fit under. The kitchen felt like a cave. A pink and cream cave.
Tall bar in the eat-in kitchen; Smokey pink glass and brass on the ceiling fan light; hole in the wall from whole house intercom system with radio.
laundry room
The original washer was locked shut with water in it. Neither washer or dryer worked. We had to buy new ones immediately. Notice the dirt and hooks on the wall.
Permanently dirty laundry room sink, with beige tile and pink countertop; hooks everywhere
lots of doors with yellowed, plastic handles
dishwasher never worked, double sinks were shallow and small, faucet and backsplash were gross.
I fixed the leaky sink and replaced the garbage disposal
Tile grout was originally white, but looked black. The accent lights in the ceiling were fluorescent and rarely worked all at the same time.
under counter fluorescent lights, sometimes worked, sometimes not; I repaired the microwave and found a glass rotating disk replacement online. We used it for over three years.
These last two photos were from the listing. You can see why the house stayed on the market for over four months. The owner was selling the house himself. He rejected our first offer because we offered less than he was asking, but four months later accepted the same offer.

Kitchen & Laundry After Phase I, but before tile was replaced in Phase II
New LED sealed lights in ceiling; bar lowered
Wall removed; new LED lights above range
New LED rope light above cabinets; an integrated light rope under the cabinet, routed into the wood; pullout pantry beside fridge helped to make up for lost upper cabinets on the other side of the kitchen.
Taller cabinets; lower drawers everywhere except under the sink and trash pullout.
All of the kitchen lights are on a dimmer.
Tall cabinet to the left for trays; pull-out cabinet to the right for spices, measuring cups, baking supplies, etc.
We first met with our designer and contractor for the kitchen in March of 2023. They began demolition in October, 2023. They finished the kitchen at the end of January, 2024. We met soon after to begin planning for the primary bath renovation. We signed a contract for that work in April, 2024. They began demolition work in September 2024.
Tomorrow, phase II: primary bathroom, bedroom, closet, flooring for most of the house
