Friday

It was a beautiful Friday morning. I rode my bike to Clearwater, crossing Stephenson Creek.

I spotted movement in the water as I crossed the bridge.

I stopped to see three manatees swim into the creek from the sound.

They swam under the bridge, deep into the creek.

Sunrise looking over our backyard fence.

Another great week of sunny mornings and afternoon thundershowers, keeping temps below 90 degrees most days.

Monday

I had a flat tire on my bike this morning, so after going to the gym on the back-up bike, we took the tire, Toby, and the golf cart downtown to Kafe Racer for a new tube. While they were repairing the flat, we rode over to the marina to take Toby for a swim.

He was very excited, but reluctant to get in over his head.

He wanted to go further, but he kept getting scared.

He got lots of stimulation though . . . and a shower once he got home.

As we considered our bathroom renovation, we knew we would need to re-tile the bathroom floor because of the garden tub removal and shower renovation. And since the bathroom joins the bedroom and the bedroom carpet is beyond gross, we wanted to tile the whole suite. But we also didn't want the primary bedroom suite to have different tile from the rest of the house. Our current tile is out of stock. Therefore, we decide to re-tile the entire house. At the time, the tile was in okay condition. The kitchen had many pits and dings from dropped items. The second bath and front door entrance had several cracked tiles, and the tiles in the hallway were hollow sounding when you walked on them, indicating that the mortar had come loose on the underside. Well, today the tiles bowed up, about 9 of them.

We were afraid they might shatter if walked on because of the pressure, so John hammered away at the grout until the tiles popped up.

We relieved the pressure.

And threw a bathmat over the loose tiles. We're about a month away from the re-tiling, and now we're glad we decided to re-tile the whole house.

Sunday

July was the month for purchasing plumbing hardware for the new bathroom remodel. Everything arrived in good shape except for the tub filler.

The filler arrived with missing parts and rust stains that couldn't be removed. The seal on the box was ripped, making us think this unit was returned.

Some spots on the spout that couldn't be removed.
We boxed it back up and returned it. Once our account was credited for the return, we ordered a replacement, which arrived without blemish. It's good that we had the time to straighten it all out without holding up progress. Last time I checked, we were slowly creeping up the list with our remodelers. We've been told to prepare for early August. The next thing to order is floor tile. We wanted to put that off as long as we could because of storage and cost.

We've been having beautiful weather. Sunny in the morning.

Rain in the afternoon. The temps drop to the mid-70s when it rains.

There's been a good chance of rain nearly every day.

The week before was the same. We've had much more rain this year than in years past.

Stirling Park is looking green. The ponds are full.

Lake Saundra above, at sunset.

We're getting ready for the bathroom remodel. I sent some questions to our designer.

Our new round tub will be taller than the current tub. The sticky note marks the new height. I asked the designer about the distance from the window wall. The sides will be about 10 inches. I thought the back should be about 6 inches. She agreed. She said it could be even less, but I wanted to make sure there was plenty of room to clean behind the tub. The front edge of the new tub will come out to the edge of the previous tub.

That means the edge will be inline with the wall and shower wall. (The steps will be gone.)

I thought the tub filler would look good next to the shower door, but the designer thought it would look best in the back, left corner. I think she's right. That's where the water supply is, so that makes sense. It will also be protected back there. It's a massive fixture, so it will still be visible.

The mowers used a different pattern this morning and crushed one of our sprinkler heads. We came home from our walk with a water fountain.

It took some searching to find it.

But I was soon able to pull back the turf and excavate.

The guts to the sprinkler were nowhere to be found. The insides had been catapulted to who knows where. We searched up and down the street and in our flower beds. I got a replacement at Ace, but it was too low, so we went back to Ace and got an extension. After applying some plumber's tape, we were able to put everything back together and reset the spray pattern. I only had to dig it up three times. Grrr!

We've discovered the secret to AC maintenance in Florida. Use this contraption to hook up to your wet/dry vacuum and connect it to your external condensation line and suck all the gunk out. Using vinegar and hot water monthly will only work for so long. Our gadget arrives tonight. I can't wait to use it. At $235 per service call for the pros to do the same thing, it's a no brainer. We had to have it done twice in a year.

We rode our bikes out to Honeymoon Island this morning about 8:30.

Gorgeous day.

We walked barefoot from bathhouse #1 to the southern tip of dog beach and back. We took pictures for a couple with their 16 year old dog.

Dog Beach, looking south.

Dog Beach, looking west. This is the southernmost tip of the island as it curves back in towards the mainland.

Erosion continues along the entire island. We were amazed at how much it has changed since we moved here in 2020.

Bike ride home. I cut John's hair yesterday. He's about two pounds lighter.

Our birds of paradise have been loving the daily rain.

Monday

I cut up and bagged our yard waste for pick up tomorrow.
