Aberdeen Mailboxes

Sorry there was no blog entry yesterday. I was consumed with work and didn't get a chance to get out. I thought I'd make it up by bringing you this special blog on the creative mailboxes of Aberdeen. The name for the street comes from the Scottish town, of course. In case you didn't know, the city of Dunedin gets its name from Dùn èideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh. Aberdeen, the city, is the third largest city in Scotland and lies on the coast, northeast of the capital. The street in Dunedin of the same name runs perpendicular to St. Joseph Sound and intersects with Edgewater Drive which runs along the Sound, one of the few roads around with a clear view of the water and the islands beyond. (Click on the images for a larger view. Then click on the large image to return to the blog.)

This is no mailbox. But I thought since it was around the corner and demonstrated such creativity, it belonged in this blog. It's an upside down chandelier that is made to look like a jellyfish! Our neighbors were inspired by this fixture and hung three chandeliers in their oak tree for Christmas. Theirs were painted funky colors, but they hung in the proper orientation.
It was another beautiful day, 77 degrees and sunny. We walked 13.2 miles, mostly on the causeway.
It started off cloudy. This is Curlew Creek looking east from the Pinellas Trail bridge. You can see the golf cart bridge in the distance of the Dunedin Golf Club course. Towards the west is St. Joseph's Sound.
We never get tired of the views on the causeway.
We took a bike ride downtown to the marina. Here's a right-side-up picture of the fishbone cross walk. Clever.
The crosswalk connects the motel to one of our favorite restaurants, Olde Bay Cafe & Fish Market. We like it because you know the fish is fresh and you can sit outside and watch the boats come in. Great place to watch the sun set.

We fixed Hummus Crusted Chicken for dinner on a bed of couscous, with a side of butter beans.
