Causeway Blues

I got the name for my blog domain (Causeway Blues) from my love of the nearby causeway and the amazing sights. The many different shades of blue and my natural melancholy disposition seemed to make for a good play on words. Sometimes beauty can make you cry, especially with the juxtaposition of a pandemic in view. Humans suffer and wait in fear, but the birds and fish go on about their work.
This morning, we walked to the end of the causeway and back. There were more people out than before. To create social distance, some walked the 10-foot trail on the south side, some walked the narrow walkway on the north side, and some walked in the now-closed parking lots. On the way back, the county sheriffs were asking people to get off the beach parking lots and onto the trail, which makes sense since the beaches and lots were technically closed and some people were taking advantage of the situation to linger at the water's edge. The unhappy result, though, is that banning folks from walking in the parking lots confined too many people to the trail. There's not enough room for walkers and bikers going in both directions. Sigh. This was probably our last causeway walk for a while. Causeway blues, indeed.

Say goodbye to my causeway friends.
We walked about 11 miles today. The weather was perfect: 82 degrees with a light breeze. We're going to have to go back to walking in the neighborhood, Hammock Park, and the pocket parks along Bayshore Blvd. There are some great sights there, too. In fact, it's not hard to find something beautiful to look at. Here's a picture of a Bird of Paradise from the front yard.
The neighbors are sharing chalk drawings on their driveways to cheer walkers on. Being pent up can bring out the inner artist. Always look up!
