Friday

We took a picnic lunch on our bikes to Honeymoon Island. It was 88 degrees with a ten mph wind.

This was our view from the bench swing. Tough to beat!

We saw this interesting inflatable catamaran sailboat on our causeway walk this morning. John liked it, but when he saw the man bring out the electric motor, he liked it even more.

We took Dee Dee out for a walk at the Fine Arts center. We made her appointment for an annual checkup and vaccinations. When we got the reminder a month ago we didn’t even think she’d live that long to make the appointment, but here we are.

While we were out, I masked up and went in to Ace Hardware to get a bag of top soil. I’ve got a sprinkler project to work on in the middle of the front yard. For some reason there is an old unused sprinkler that is in the bottom of a hole. The grass covers it so you can’t see it, but when the mowers hit it, it drives the cutting deck into the grass, scalping the grass. I’ll excavate and inspect. If there are no leaks, I’ll fill in the hole. That’s the plan, but you never know what you’ll find.

(A few hours later)
So . . . I used the poking stick (John’s name for it) to make sure there weren’t any snakes in the hole before I stuck my hand down there. Then I pulled back the grass and found nothing but an old tree stump at the bottom of the hole about an inch wide, not an irrigation pipe. So I filled in the hole with dirt and covered it up with grass.

We’ll see how it does after a good downpour, which should be soon.

My dean sent an email Today that said faculty are NOT to report to campus on August 10th as we would if things were normal. Faculty will be expected to work from home for the semester. Permission is required to even come on campus. Regular beginning-of-the-semester meetings will be held online.

I’m not sure what this means for my office clean up, badge and key return, or final exit interview.

  1. I have a black snake hanging out in both my front and backyard so I wore with high rain boots yesterday to pull Ivy.

  2. Black snakes are good. They eat rats.
