Sunday

We rode our bikes to Taylor Lake in Largo after lunch today. On the way through Dunedin, we passed this adorable dog with pink highlights. She had a big pink heart dyed into her fur on the other side. We asked the caretaker if we could get a picture, and he graciously consented and hooked up his dog to the statue outside the Dunedin History Museum.

Scenes from Taylor Lake outside of Largo.

John read about a man getting bitten by an alligator here at 4:00 in the morning trying to retrieve frisbees from the lake. The article writes itself: "Florida man bitten in the face at 4:00 a.m. retrieving frisbees . . . " (I thought having a frisbee course alongside an alligator-filled lake was not such a good idea last time we were here.)

Baby birds

Panororamic shot of this morning's sunrise from Dee Dee's early morning walk. Dee Dee had a good day. She ate pretty well (with lots of coaxing) and hardly coughed at all.

It was 75 degrees this morning with winds blowing 4-6 mph.

Just a few minutes separated the two above pictures.

Then the sun finally broke through.

A gratuitous sunrise picture from above the tidal bridge on the causeway.

This map shows that we biked almost half way to St. Petersburg. The blue line with green mile markers shows our route. The blue dot is home. We turned around at Taylor Lake. It took 2 hours, which is about as far as we can go with Dee Dee on a diuretic; otherwise, we would have kept going. We're looking forward to crossing the long bridge made just for bicycles over the inlet between Largo and St. Petersburg.

I took my non-motorized bike to Largo to try out my new bike parts. The stem riser came around lunch time, so I had time to install it before the ride. I definitely need a new seat since this one was designed for someone putting weight on their behind and arms and leaning over, but with the risers, I'll be sitting upright with all of my weight on the seat. It's definitely inadequate. I'll get a new seat and then evaluate the need for further modifications. This bike is not yet as comfortable as my electric bike, but it's still fun to ride. It's quiet, and I like the responsiveness and the feeling of being 100% in control and not having to think about what the motor is doing or should be doing. An electric bike is sort of like a tandem bike in that there are two sources of power, and while the two cyclists (or human and motor) are connected, they are also not the same and are not always in sync.

Miles walked: 5
Miles biked: 25 (mechanical)

  1. Jeff and I rode with cathy and er to dawn Lake and the quarry. We picked up lunch in the way home and ate it outside in their patio. Then we played ping pong. So fun. The after I have spent watering and fertilizing my flowers and reading. Love love the photos of the sunset. And I loved the pink dog.
