Saturday

Toby being cute!

We took Toby on the "Coastal" trail at Wall Springs Park this morning. That's the new trail off the side of the park. It's 1.23 miles long, and it takes you to the water. It was a bit too far for Toby because of his age and recent surgery, but we didn't notice until we were on the way back to the car. The last 1/4 mile, he put his ears back and walked at a fast pace to get back to the car. I think if we had turned loose, he would have run to the car and would have been waiting on us there. He had had enough walking.

It was 75-78 degrees on the walk. Beautiful weather.

We passed many people, bikes, dogs, strollers, kids, etc. Toby did great with all of them.

The best thing he did today was walk to the back door and sit on the mat to let us know he needed to go tinkle. Hooray! Up until today, we've just taken him out every two hours whether he needed to go or not. Another neat trick he's learned is to sit at the welcome mat after a walk to allow us to unhook his leash before we open the door for him to enter.

I vacuumed the house for the first time since he came. I was surprised that there wasn't much fur. His coat is really thin. In fact, you can see his pink skin and freckles through his coat at some angles.

There's one house by the pond that has dogs in the house that bark when we pass by. Toby gets really nervous. If we're both with him and feed him treats he will continue walking, but tonight I was by myself and he turned around to go back home. I could not coax him to continue. I also think he was still tired from this morning and just wanted to go home. We have to keep reminding ourselves that he's still a puppy. He's about the same size as Dee Dee, so we forget that he's not full grown.

Miles walked: 6
Miles biked: 0
