Toby was restless at bedtime last night. He couldn’t get comfortable, and he was whining. We put the cone of shame on him so that we could go to sleep, but that made things worse. He wouldn’t lay down and then he panicked because he couldn’t get the cone off of his head. We had to take it off. I planned to stay awake for half the night while John slept and then switch. Toby then rounded up all his toys—one by one—and brought them to bed. Once he had all his stuff with him, he finally drifted off to sleep. Not long afterward I did so as well. I woke up once to take him out to pee. He finally peed without running back to the door first. His discharge papers warned of odd behavior after his anesthesia.
This morning he was high-energy. I guess being cooped up in a crate all day and doped up for surgery can do that to a dog. I tried to walk him but I couldn't get him to stop wiggling to put his harness on. It was like trying to hold on to greased pig. He was all over the place. I finally placed him in his crate. He cried for about six minutes (I counted); then settled down for a long nap. I told John that we needed to keep him in his harness at all times for a while.

I’m sure he will be much better when he recoups. That surgery has to be painful for a while. Also his different housing location you provided last blog was awful to read. I know Toby is quizzical re all the love, food and care he is receiving. Then the surgery, discomfort etc is hard to know what is happening. Hope tonight goes better.
