Wednesday

Another low tide on our morning causeway walk. It was 59 degrees with a 9-10 mph breeze.

The seagulls were enjoying the large sandbar in the middle of St. Joseph's Sound with the Gulf of Mexico in the background.

We had intended to give Toby a rest from the dog park, but John's intuition told him that if we went at 10:15 like we did the first time instead of 9:00 like we did the second time, we might avoid the boisterous big dogs we encountered yesterday on our second trip. I thought this made no sense, that it was just a random thing.

I've learned to trust John's idiosyncratic intuition, so we went at 10:15 a.m. this morning after our causeway walk. He was right. (I hate it when he's right!) The group of dogs after 10 are different than the ones at 9:00, at least it seems so. John's theory is that the 9:00 dogs haven't exercised yet and hit the park full bore with pent up energy, while the 10:00 crowd has already been for a walk and are on a more laid-back schedule. Their humans aren't rushing off to work.

We will see if the theory holds. But today, all dogs were polite and playful without being rough.

Toby was more independent today. We lost contact with him a couple of times while he was playing chase with other dogs. We try to keep an eye on him just in case he runs into trouble or causes trouble. He wasn't gone too long and came when we called. John pointed out that we were the only ones calling our dog.

One man heard us calling Toby and spotted him and called him for us. Another man recognized him from yesterday and said, "Hey, Toby," as Toby flew by him.

Toby was smitten with a Cairn Terrier. They chased after one another, mostly Toby chasing, but the terrier was clearly having fun.

We had turkey, spinach, and Swiss wraps for lunch with a bowl of fruit and yogurt.

We took neighborhood walks the rest of the day while I worked on replacing a burned out outdoor light.

The temperature got up to 75 degrees.

I ended up replacing all of the compact fluorescent lights on the front with LED lights, so they would all have the same color and intensity of light. The new lights are whiter and much smaller. (You can see the bright, white lights beside the garage and beside the front entrance.) The ones that came with the house were huge and look like they were from the turn of the century.

Here are the new lights at dusk.

And at near nightfall.

And at nightfall. You can really see the white light clearly in this picture.

A very silly topic on the day the country records over 250,000 cumulative deaths from the Corona Virus since March, with hospitals running out of room for sick patients.

John cooked chicken in the crock pot, and I poured lettuce in the bowl. Together we made a chicken salad. Easy meal.

My next house project is to remove an arbor made out of PVC pipe that the previous owner attached to the house and fence. This project will require some stucco patching.

We're thinking about installing a fence to close off the back yard, but we're not sure of the style or height. I think this will be a long term project.

Then on Monday, I plan to cut down the fig tree at the south end of the house. The storm blew it partly over so that it's touching the house, making it impossible to mow under. The roots are popping up from the ground on the other side. It's a mess. Plus, we have never eaten any of the figs. We hear that the fruit rats love them, once they finish with our avocados. I'm going to tackle it Monday so I can take the branches straight to the curb for pick up on Tuesday.
