Thursday

One of our neighbors got a new mailbox. The artist who makes these mailboxes lives in Sarasota. He's known as the "Tube Dude."

This is the work of our in-house artist. He found a box of tissues and sought to see if he could make something out of it. Very abstract.

For the record, this is the first thing that he has destroyed, other than dog toys and, well, one of John's shirts. More to come, I'm sure.

I was preparing dinner tonight and he placed his front paws on the counter top to see what I was doing. I remember the time Dee Dee counter surfed and ate all our turkey and beef luncheon meat while we were outside in Sanibel one Christmas.

I rode to Crystal Beach this afternoon. On the map at the end of this blog, the Crystal Beach trip is the northern leg. It was 63 degrees and overcast. But there were lots of folks on the trail.

After lunch, it was actually sunny for a few hours. We took Toby for a belated causeway walk since he missed that walk this morning while I was at the doctor's.

Love those crossed paws.

I rode my bike to my doctor's appointment. It was 57 degrees, but I was fresh out of the shower and warm. It wasn't bad. It took 25 minutes.

The image above is where Main Street crosses the Pinellas Trail. The commute traffic was fairly light. Ha!

The doctor was great. She was funny, laid back, and very attentive. She said that I should still be teaching. She said, "Don't your students miss you?" I cleared up her misconceptions.

She asked if I was ready to travel the world now that I was retired. I said no. "What do you do?" she asked. "We walk and ride our bikes." "So, you retired to exercise?" she asked. "Yes, I guess I did."

She didn't find any problems, so I guess I'm doing a good job, for now.

The sun came out on the way home.

Toby slept from 8:00 last night til 5:30 this morning, our normal waking time. I think the dog park was good for him.

Tomorrow we have an appointment with a fence company to give us an estimate on closing off our backyard. Since the neighbors behind us already have a tall privacy fence, we would just need the sides and then a couple of gates on each side from the house to the sides. With a fenced-in yard, we may be able to burn some of Toby's energy without having to drive all the way to the dog park every day.

Miles walked: 4
Miles biked: 20.5

  1. Love the idea of the fence for Toby. And I love your neighbors mailbox and Toby’s art and his crossed paws.

  2. Ditto to Pam’s comments. Loved the Sanibel memory. We have some fun memories. Toby is a hoot.
