Wednesday

Winter has arrived in Dunedin! It was 37 degrees this morning when we woke up at 4:15. Double yikes! It did get up to 59 degrees by the afternoon, but still. It felt like North Carolina to us.

I love John’s new shoes. We went to Sketchers days ago where they had a big sale if you bought two pairs. So now he’s got a new pair and a spare.

John’s introducing Toby to Christmas. I did research on hives in dogs, and I think the vet was right about that being the issue. The Benadryl is helping with the inflammation. The bumps are still there, but they're smaller. The cause could be his vaccinations, rubbing from the harness, his food, or insect bites. It's going to be tough to figure out.

I completed a huge project today. Last year when we had the garage floor painted, we had to move everything out, including this workbench that came with the house. We put it outside under a tarp, but it got wet anyway. The top was made out of cheap particle board that swelled up like a sponge. Not only that, but if you touched it, it would disintegrate into micro fibers, creating a big mess, so I covered it with a towel. Not pretty.

Today, I removed the top, went to Home Depot and got this replacement, and attached it. It was an indulgence to go out given the surge in Covid-19 infections. It's hard to just stop everything. I wore a mask and everyone I saw had a mask on.

I read today that the CDC is expecting 450,000 total deaths by February. I also read that counties with mask mandates saw a small drop in infections (8%, I think), but counties without mask mandates were seeing 100% increases. Maybe now that that radiologist, Dr. Atlas, is off the Caronavirus task force, masks won't be ridiculed, but I'm not counting on it.

The article said that if you're over 60, you should not enter a store if everyone is not wearing a mask.  The article recommended picking up groceries curbside for the next several months.

The article also said if you are under 40 and shared Thanksgiving with people outside those with whom you live, assume you are infected and asymptomatic and quarantine for at least a week.

We had a great salad, and John made a pot of vegetable soup for a cold winter night.

Toby has missed his exercise today, as have we. There's not enough Benedryl in the world to calm a puppy whose been mostly housebound all day.

Miles walked: 3.0
Miles biked: 0

  1. Loved your comment on Toby/ Benedryl. Funny! John your soup looked delicious. Is the Christmas tree for Toby? Glad you have one. I had a good day. Dad goes back to PT tomorrow.

  2. Me too! So cold here, tennis was called off. Can’t work in the yard, or ride my bike. Boo hoo!

I even told Walter he would have to go to the bathroom in the back yard as It was too windy and cold for me to take him outside. He did and I took him for a short walk after lunch.

I am back at Lake Norman.
