Saturday

We drove out to Honeymoon Island this morning for our long walk. It was 60 degrees, but beautiful. We stopped by the Nature Center. Above is a replica of the honeymoon cottages used to popularize the island back in the 40s. I wonder if that story inspired the creator of Gilligan’s Island in the 60s?

A short walking trail at the Nature Center.

A view of St. Joseph's Sound from the deck of the Nature Center.

A view from the ground of the Nature Center, looking east towards the causeway condominiums.

We walked along the gulf side of the island during low tide and examined the fossilized limestone.

Gulf of Mexico looking north.

An "Osprey Post" with a seagull on it . . .

. . . and then a crow. But no osprey.

Honeymoon Island looking inland toward the east.

Looking out toward the Gulf of Mexico from building #3 with Florida “mountains” on the horizon.

Some sort of seagull with a crab for lunch.

The bike path on the island.

Lunch: turkey and Swiss with carrot sriracha hummus instead of mayonnaise. Sweet potato chips. Fruit bowl with peach yogurt: peach, tangelo, avocado, banana, blueberries, and raspberries.

The temperature got up to 63 degrees. That’s the lowest temperature I can stand on a bike, but we passed on that activity today. There were plenty of riders out there however.

We took Toby to the community center for an afternoon walk.

Tree monkey

We got Chinese take out for dinner. Home Style Bean Curd.

I walked a mile vacuuming and mopping the house. That seems impossible but the phone doesn’t lie.

Toby had a good day. We are learning each other’s rhythms. He’s a good dog.

He’s made a friend with an 87 year-old man who lives over by the golf course. The man is always out working in the yard. He always walks out to see Toby. Yesterday he was mowing his grass and saw Toby and stopped mowing to come pet him. Toby is warming up to him, but he’s bewildered by his big work gloves.

Miles walked: 8.8
Miles biked: 0

  1. I have an friend like Toby. He is old and we end up walking about the same time each day. He walks without a shirt I. The summer and I saw him today all bundled up. I love it when our paths cross.

I got out for the first one in several days. I walked al
Let 4 miles. And am so grateful to be out of the house.

  2. Sweet potato chips —I need to look for them. I pray Julie will be better. Sorry to hear about her hospitalization. I bought a new plant I learned about from Pam. I think it is like the spikie leaf plant included in your photos. I have it in the garage for the winter. Loved the tree photo. Did ya’ll replace your mailbox? It looks great.

  3. Sweet potato chips come from Trader Joe’s. They are corn chips with some sweet potato. Not as healthy as they sound.
    Same mailbox.
