Thursday

We spent a sunny afternoon with friends on St. Joseph's Sound. It was 64 degrees, but it felt much colder on the water. John and I had on our long underwear and several layers.

We began at Pirates' Cove on Bayshore at Curlew Creek and headed south towards downtown Dunedin.

Our hosts, Bob and Becky.

It was fun looking at all the waterfront homes from the water.

We made it all the way to the Fenway Hotel and then turned around and headed north.

We went under the Dunedin Causeway drawbridge.

And headed to the northern tip of Honeymoon Island, passing a lagoon that John and I had ridden our bikes to. We pointed out the benches perched along the waterfront.

The water above leads to the Gulf of Mexico. The land to the left is the tip of Honeymoon Island and the land in the distance is Three Rooker Island, accessible only by water.

On the way back, we got to see several of the spoil islands that were created when the channel was cut.

One was a bird sanctuary while others showed evidence of human exploration (wood platforms for camping, etc.).

The sun began setting so we headed back to Pirates' Cove.

We got to see the other side of the drawbridge that we walk over so much.

What a great seaside tour of our new hometown! Being on the water is soothing to the soul.

It was 39 degrees when we woke up this morning at 5:30, but the temperature dropped to 37 before our first walk.

Toby found a can of Coors Light and carried it around for a while before he got bored with it.

That dog will put just about anything in his mouth.

John made sure that Toby was good and tired for his alone time this afternoon while we were out on the water.

It has been almost a year since either one of us has had on a pair of real long pants, so we had to go through our closet to find a suitable pair for the boat trip.  Toby was bored by all the drama.

Lunchtime snooze.

Miles walked: 5.9
Miles biked: 0

  2. How exciting your boat outing was and beautiful water photos. Tell john I wondered what the raised hands represented. Toby didn’t seem to worry about “getting ready”. A very nice invitation for the boat trip. A great blog.
