Friday

We found this butterfly on our front walkway as we prepared to take our last walk around the neighborhood for the day. We passed by the flowers below.

Early afternoon, I rode my bike to the outdoor gym at Weaver Park while John and Toby napped at home.

The high today was 79 degrees, just perfect. There were lots of clouds, and the breeze at times was over 12 mph.

I often say that regardless of your skill level, there is a bike for you on the Pinellas Trail.  This bike is like a rickshaw with the couple in front and the biker in back. The couple were having the best time together.

For lunch, we decided to take Toby in the bike trailer and head to PhoEdin, the Vietnamese Restaurant on the Pinellas Trail, just south of Main Street. It's an outdoor restaurant and dog friendly, as many restaurants in Dunedin are. The nickname for Dunedin is "DogEdin," due to the many dog lovers in the city.

We got two shrimp summer rolls each with peanut sauce for dipping. It's always so good, as you can tell from my goober smile.

Toby was pretty well behaved, considering that he's still new to eating out. The couple next to us loved him. Everybody says he reminds them of Petey on The Little Rascals. The couple were traveling in a 24 foot RV with their 85 lb dog. His real name is Duncan, but they call him “Bob” as in “Barricade Bob,” of the orange road dividers used in highway construction. They call him that because wherever they want to be in their RV, that’s where the dog is. They have learned to dance around him and over him.

Toby was taking in everything. It's a busy location with the trail and a downtown street. He did settle once for a few minutes. He just needs more experience.

We took Toby for a short one-block walk to the restrooms on Main before heading back home.

This morning on our causeway walk it was 73 degrees with a 3 mph wind, the perfect day to kayak. The water was like glass, reflecting the clouds in the sky.

I can see a kayak in our future.

This sailboat caused us to get caught by the drawbridge on the way back.  No worries. All we needed to do was ride our bikes to the grocery store before lunch. We're going to try shopping via bike, which means we will need to go more often, but it will be more fun than our weekly car trips. It's interesting how being vaccinated makes you recalculate the risks of even mundane outings. It's been a long year, requiring discipline and strategic thinking every time we left the house.

Dinner: toasted turkey and Swiss with lemon dill hummus instead of mayonnaise. Amazing. There’s also mustard, tomato, lettuce, and bread and butter pickles.

The toast on the side has my neighbor’s Italian tapenade on it. Spicy and delicious.

The bowl has raw broccoli topped with cottage cheese and peach yogurt. We decided to switch from high calorie fruit to raw veggies for John’s diet.

Today’s bike route to the causeway, PhoEdin, and Weaver Park

Miles walked: 10.2
Miles biked: 18.7

  3. Copy us on the high calorie fruit.

  4. John’s trying to lose weight. Fruit has a lot of calories, so we’re substituting raw vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and eating them with yogurt and cottage cheese.

Eating raw food helps retain nutrients and aids in digestion.

  6. Is John getting fat? Lol. Real question. He looks like a bean pole as always! 😊
