Thursday

We rode our bikes downtown for an outdoor lunch. We checked out Clear Sky Draught Haus where Skinner and Main split. We got a great $8 burger that was as good as the Dunedin Club House burger. We passed up the fries and got mango cole slaw instead. That's will power! But the cole slaw was really good. For the pandemic, they've expanded their outdoor area by roping off a section of the parking lot, as have most eating establishments. The normal outdoor area looks quaint, and after the pandemic (if it's ever over), I'd like to eat there. Dogs are allowed.

It was a spectacularly beautiful day: mostly sunny and a pleasant 79 degrees.

Clear Sky just started serving breakfast, starting at 8:00. The menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is extensive. I think my Dad should check it out in July.

I don't know the clown in the background, but the one in the foreground is me . . . smiling.

And in this one, I am ecstatic.

Next door is the Soggy Bottom Brewing Co and Q Southern BBQ. I don't know if it's better than Eli's on the Pinellas Trail and Skinner, but it's worth a try.

After lunch, we toured around downtown, checking out my sister and brother-in-law's July rental and then headed south on the Pinellas Trail. We turned around at Stevenson Creek.

We spotted a fisherman net casting in the shallow water along the far edge of the tidal creek.

That's me enjoying the partly shady Pinellas Trail, south of downtown.

Along with the great white egret, we watched these three fishermen wading out into the sound this morning on our causeway walk. The water was beautiful.

It was 72 degrees with 12 mph winds when we started out this morning.

John caught a dolphin surfacing in the photo above. There were two playing together.

I noticed this wall of honeysuckle? on our early morning walk with Toby.

And this great white egrit is posing in front of this brick wall.

Snuggle time with Toby

Because we ate out for lunch, John was going to fix a tuna melt for dinner while I raked leaves in preparation for Mas Fina tomorrow. After my shower, I walked into the living room and he was sitting on the sofa looking defeated. He said, “The tuna is in the trash and I cut my finger twice trying to open the cans.” I looked and, yes, the cans were mangled with no opening large enough to extract tuna.

We haven’t had that can opener long, but it has been tricky to use. So I tried opening a third can. Same results. I think John felt better.

So we ordered a chicken burrito from Juan’s and split it.

We put a new can opener on our shopping list.

Today's bike routes to the causeway, Clear Sky Draught Haus, and Stevenson Creek

Miles walked: 9.9
Miles biked: 16.23

  1. The restaurant on the corner looks familiar b/c I remembered dogs were allowed. I always enjoy seeing the places I remember. The man wading out to cast his net is brave. I would worry about alligators. Enjoy the snuggle photos..
