Tuesday

Our hydrangeas are blooming in the front yard.

And baby bunnies are enjoying our back yard.

We rode our bikes to the library to return John’s DVD and encountered this “Beep.”

It’s an automated mini-bus. I learned about it here: Beep

I cut over to the sound after the library to sit and look at the water before lunch.

Because of the 2 mph wind speed and mid 80s temperature, we decided to ride our bikes out to Honeymoon Island and check out the dredging project instead of walking the causeway this morning.

The new beach ends to the right; the existing beach ends to the left. The new sand will fill in the gap where the earth movers are working.

The dredgers are piping in a lot of sand.

It looks like the new beach will be massive.

It’s nice to see white fluffy sand for the new beach. This project is not part of the normal nourishment project. This is an emergency project funded through reallocating monies intended for other park projects. It makes sense considering this is the #1 park in the state and the parking lot was falling into the surf.

In the bigger picture it’s absurd building anything on a moving sandbar, but that’s what we humans do. We typically don’t take the long view.

These humans are enjoying a very calm sail. I like the black sails.

Today’s bike routes to Honeymoon Island and the Dunedin Public Library (with a visit to Edgewater Park)

After lunch, I worked in the yard, pruning bushes that were overgrown and impeding our sprinklers. We had a patch of brown grass caused by two malfunctioning sprinklers and several obscured sprinklers. I dug up the broken ones and went to Ace to get new heads. It’s not that hard, but it’s messy and time consuming. I have to relearn how to do it each time. There are all sorts of variations in sprinklers. And I get thoroughly soaked testing and adjusting them. I got it done, though.

Since I was already a mess, I decided to clean our garbage can. We inherited a very dirty can and have added our own filth. While I was working, I had a couple of neighbors to stop by to chat which was nice. I guess we are usually either walking Toby or zooming away on our bikes, which inhibits long conversations.

Miles walked: 3.5
Miles biked: 18.4

  1. I love the beautiful white sand and hydrangeas. Mine are not blooming yet.

Your story about the sprinklers reminds me of my watering technique. When I get lazy and try to move the hose without turning off the water, I crimp it to allow me to move but most of the time the water will gush out before I can get out of the way and I get soaked. I am sure my neighbors are amused.
