Saturday

I took a walk around the neighborhood while John took a nap after lunch. I ended up at Lake Saundra where the squirrels expect to be fed.

No sign of Mr. Alligator.

I keep taking a picture of this tree hoping that I can capture its full beauty. The camera can’t quite capture it.

It’s been overcast and partly sunny, depending on when you look out.

I’m enjoying our hydrangeas this year.

We branched out and got a takeout calzone from Bambino’s on Bayshore Boulevard.

It was good to try something different, but I think Madison Avenue Pizza makes a better calzone. To be fair, Bambino’s calzone was smaller and less expensive.

We rode our bikes out to the causeway and walked halfway and turned around. There’s a red tide about a mile and a half off shore that’s causing fish to die. They’re washing up on the beaches. County and city workers are picking them up as fast as they can. They have a huge dumpster on the beach with rotting fish. It’s a putrid smell, makes you want to gag. It also burns your throat and makes you cough.

Some say it’s a naturally occurring phenomenon; others say it’s related to the abandoned fertilizer pond near Tampa that has been a known hazard for years and finally breached its barriers and flooded the bay with nutrients.

I guess it’s like global warming: if you care more about making a buck, then you oppose trying to mitigate global warming and say it’s “natural.” If you care about the environment, then you try to use government policy to change people’s behavior and save the planet.

Today’s bike routes to the causeway, downtown, and neighborhood

Miles walked: 8.9
Miles biked: 14.21

  1. I think I recognize the beautiful tree by the swing in the yard. Look forward to seeing it in person. Your hydrangea are absolutely beautiful. I’ve noticed more of this bush this year. However they are sticks here in NC in the winter. Enjoyed our talk tonight. Love you.
