Wednesday

We came upon this raccoon squirrel on our morning walk with Toby.

They are so cute.

We’ve had a good bit of rain lately, making for optimal mushroom growing.

This armadillo waddled off when we approached.

We rode our bikes to Honeymoon Island to test the severity of the Red Tide today. Reports said it was low today.

We held our breath when we passed the dumpster on the other side of the drawbridge. Then a couple of times we could smell dead fish. We stayed away from the water, but we could see dead fish floating along the shoreline from the Causeway Trail.

It looked like there was minimal work being done on the beach project, but they have made some progress since we were here last.

Instead of walking, we were going to ride our bikes downtown after we got back from Honeymoon. We stopped at Hammock for a quick break then we started feeling sprinkles. These two different kinds of trees have grown almost together at one point.

We checked the radar and made a quick about face. A front was approaching quickly.

We made it home just in time.

We needed the rain, so we didn’t mind changing our plans.

After lunch and after the rain passed, I used the grabbers that John picked up from the causeway last year. At the time, I saw it as an unnecessary tool and just more clutter for the garage.

It turns out, I was wrong. They are magical for picking up leaves and saving my back!

Rakes, by the way, tend to tear up the delicate shoots of St. Augustine grass, making the lawn look terrible. A light raking a few times a year is all it can handle. St. Augustine grass prefers not to be walked on or it becomes matted and dies. “Look but don’t touch” should be the name of the grass.

After leaf duty, we rode downtown and John came back home while I stayed to exercise at the gym.

It turned out to be a beautiful day. It was 81 degrees with an 8 mph breeze.

Here’s a picture from yesterday’s downtown walk. The inscription on the bridge says, “Beware the Troll.” Ha. Ha. We are somewhere near Home Plate Restaurant.

Today’s bike routes to Honeymoon Island and downtown, almost twice.

Miles walked: 6
Miles biked: 21.85
