Thursday

If there is such a thing as a good yard day in August, this was it. On our morning walk it was 73 degrees and overcast most of the day. It got up to 86 degrees. A brief thunderstorm moved in around 6:30.

John dug up a huge liriope plant in the other critter corner.

Nowhere to hide!

He removed an old shrub at this end of the front bed that was not thriving and pruned the hibiscus. It should fill out without all the competition. He pruned the gardenia in the back and removed some plant on the north side.

Things are looking better.

I tried to remove this stump from the 30 year old cedar-type bush we cut down.

I exposed all the roots near surface and cut them with the sawsall, but there was no budging it. I’ve got one more plan to try tomorrow, but if that doesn’t work, I think we may have to plant around it and disguise it.

My project this morning was to replace the broken light switch in the second bathroom.

Only one trip to Ace and it was done.

Toby’s new dog bed arrived. John said if he doesn’t use it, one of us can. The first one we ordered arrived without the orthopedic mattress. They said to keep the bolstered cover and they would send a whole new bed. This one was perfect. We’re going to Jo Ann’s Fabrics to get some foam for the first bed so John and I can have matching beds.

Toby’s had a few moments, but he calmed down quickly. I’m sure he thinks we are so boring. In his perfect world, he’d play fetch, eat paper towels, and steal socks, dish towels, and bath mats all day long.

I caught him trying to steal my sock this morning, but used the “drop it” command, and he did!
