After walking Toby this morning, we got to work in the yard. John dug up bushes, and I trimmed the bird of paradise.
Yesterday, it looked like this after I removed the dead leaves.
Today, I cut the lower leaves.
Eventually, the other leaves will bend lower to the ground, allowing for more daylight throughout.
Before lunch I cleaned the front entrance and the low walls on both sides of the front door.
After lunch, we went to the Garden Room in Palm Harbor and bought new plants for the front bed. John’s going to prune back that leggy plant on the right.
Dark green leaves with tiny purple flowers. Sorry, I’m not good with plant names.
And some small ground cover plants (some variegated, some not) with small red flowers.
The vinca Mom planted turned into a large bush and then died suddenly. John planted this new plant.
I was in the middle of repairing an underground sprinkler when a mighty thunderstorm came through, which gave me time to pull up a chair and write this blog.
23 mph winds, but in 30 minutes it was all gone. Too late to finish the sprinkler repair.
We got takeout calzones from Bambino’s on Bayshore Boulevard.
We did some training for Toby, more walking, and fetch. He’s doing really well with his “leave it” and “drop it” commands from week three. He did parade through the house with the bath mat, trying to get us to chase him. We’ve learned not to react or show any interest. After some time has passed, we distract him with something more appropriate. Soon he will lose interest in the bath mat parade.
It looks like August is going to be for house projects. Between the heat, thunderstorms, and Toby, it’s been challenging to exercise. My “to do” list grows.
Miles walked: 5
Miles biked: 0

Your bird of paradise looks lovely. What I would give for your rain.
ReplyDeleteYes we really need some rain. You did a great job on the bird of paradise. Lol at Toby dragging the bath mat. He is hilarious. I’m enjoying your landscaping project. Don’t be surprise if the vincas reappear. PAULA told me a few years ago that if I would wait they would return. Like what John replanted at the mail box.
