Wednesday

We’re taking it easy today. I woke up feeling tired and groggy. John reminded me that the last few days have been hot walking.

So we drove to Publix, picked up a few things, and then came home.

I walked to Lake Saundra to get some fresh air and read. It was mostly sunny and 81 degrees.

Toby spotted a Rottweiler he had met maybe once before.

He waited patiently for the dog’s owner to walk over so he could greet him.

By staying in a down position,Toby signals that he’s no threat. This is his own doing. We didn’t teach him that.

It works pretty well. Unfortunately, at the dog park, this sort of passivity will often get him rolled and ganged up on.

We made another run to Ace to get more mulch for the small bed behind the wall in front of our dining room window.

And we finished the front side bed with the cypress mulch.

I also started cutting loose coaxial cable wires that were dangling from the eaves. There are plenty more to cut down, but it’s a start. I’ve counted nine of them, only one of them we need. Some are even in the ground.

The previous owner was a ham radio operator and left two or three satellite dishes in the attic. It seems every room has a coaxial cable or two in it. In addition, there’s a TV antenna on a pole next to our house.

This fall, if I get sufficiently inspired, I’ll clear out all the crap.

I cleaned up the mirror we found at a neighbors’ house on trash day.

I think it’ll look good in the dining room or entrance area.

We just took our last walk of the day at twilight. It was 82 degrees.

  1. Hope you feel better tomorrow. The heat and exercise can be tricky on the body. I love all your landscaping changes. I look forward to watching Toby meet his friends.

  2. Love love your yard. You have inspired me to think about my hill at the driveway and my backyard. Now that the ivy is removed from the back yard, I need to plant some things. I attended a Zoom mtg at Reynolda Gardens and ordered a few ferns. I also want to order some coral bells for the slope in the front driveway going up the steps. I originally had vinca but it is too invasive and all kinds of things creep into it. Slowly surely getting rid of it.

Jeff did some edging today around my sidewalk and back yard pond. The tool is too heavy and king for me to manage.

We are going to the Pamlico this weekend for the first time since we sold our portion of the house. I have mixed emotions about returning. Jeff thinks he needs to get his boat out of the creek but I think it might be too soon. I would hate to have to move it back if a hurricane comes.
