Wednesday

It sprinkled lightly on our Toby walk this morning, but the skies cleared for our morning causeway walk. We drove the car, just in case.

It was an easy walk today with cooler temperatures and low humidity.

After lunch, I went to the outdoor gym at Weaver Park to exercise. John joined me later and we rode our bikes on the Pinellas Trail to Stevenson Creek. We saw the construction on the condos down at the creek inlet from the sound and decided to take a closer look.

We rode our bikes down to Edgewater Drive to get these pictures. It will be interesting to see this project develop. It’s a great location.

This will be their view of St. Joseph Sound and Clearwater Beach in the distance. The Pinellas Trail is 1/4 mile to the east. Edgewater Park is just across the street and goes all the way to the Dunedin Marina and downtown, about 2 miles to the north. Clearwater downtown is about 2 miles to the south.

Sleepy Toby snuggling in my lap this morning.

John and Toby at the community center this afternoon.

We’ve been exploring new restaurants for the last week.

Con Sabor (next to Julian’s Little Italy) has great enchiladas with a side of beans and rice.

Los Amigos (across from the Chatterbox) has authentic burritos.

Tonight, we tried Delco’s (on Main, across from Ace) chicken parmigiana sandwich and salad. It was nice for a change.

I dreamed of The Chair, the Netflix show I binged on last night before bed. I should know better than to watch TV before bedtime. I kept trying to figure out what the theme of the show is and whose point of view we’re supposed to sympathize with. I guess we’re supposed to sympathize with the chair, hence the title.

The best theme I can discern from the first five episodes is an existential one: the world is absurd and there’s nothing you can do to change that fact. Your only choice is to be seduced by a fascist leader who will take your freedom and offer a false security based in lies and bigotry or, the second choice, is to act with dignity in an absurd world to create your own meaning, knowing that your actions will not change the absurdity.

In this case, higher education has become a farce due to declining standards, student apathy, corporatization of learning, overzealous emphasis on feelings, and incompetent administrators. Faculty members in the show struggle to maintain their dignity while navigating these treacherous waters, some more adroitly than others, but the struggle is real.

Today’s bike route to Weaver Park and Stevenson Creek

Miles walked: 11.1
Miles biked: 12.11

  1. I would agree with your second theme although I haven’t watched much of the show. I do feel sorry for the man who use to be the chair. I also feel sorry for the daughter and grandfather who is asked to often to care for the child.

  2. Not aware of The Chair but it sounds interesting. Dad and I put down 9 bags of mulch yesterday and today. Proud of us. Did laundry, changed sheets and planted a few pansies. Getting nails done tomorrow.
