Toby graduated from his second intermediate class this afternoon. He’s had 12 weeks of intermediate training and 6 weeks of beginner training. His advanced class begins in the new year, exact time tbd.
Our class was down to two dogs, so we got lots of instructions. Finally, we are getting positive feedback. She says that Toby has made significant progress and that it’s because we stepped up and put in the work.
Toby had to walk around the three dog biscuits on the floor (squint to see them) with “leave it” commands. I did it first with treats, and John did it next without treats. We all did great.
Out in the store he sat in a wait on a 15 foot leash while the trainer walked between Toby and me bouncing a red rubber ball. Then she squawked like a chicken while bouncing the ball and walking between us.
He’s supposed to focus on me and stay in a wait until called. Toby watched every bounce and stared at the squawking trainer, and never moved until I called him. The trainer was impressed. She said if he can hear you and follow directions without looking, that’s okay. Most dogs will lose focus.
We practiced talking to one another while our dogs were in a “down settle” without talking to them, as if we had dinner guests or something like that.
We picked up some shampoo for Toby based on our trainer’s recommendation.
Lake Saundra holiday decorations from our afternoon walk. The temperature got up to 75 degrees.
This morning’s causeway walk was even foggier than yesterday’s.
We were on our bikes riding carefully through the fog. When we got home around 10:00, we were wet from all the moisture. John said it was good for our skin. It was a warm 70 degrees, no wind.
Toby had a ten minute dinner from his hollow Kong dispenser.
Lake Saundra from our last walk of the day.
