Wednesday

After lunch, the three of us rode in the go cart downtown. We walked from the train station to the marina to Pioneer Park to Monroe street to the Pinellas Trail and back to the train station, basically the shade dictated our route. The high temperature was 92 degrees.

After our downtown walk, we rode south on Broadway to Garden Circle, Park Circle, Grove Circle, and Lime Circle. These circles are located between Broadway and Citrus Avenue, a block from the water, a half block from the Pinellas Trail, and at the southern edge of Dunedin. I've wanted to explore these nooks for a while, but haven't had the chance to do it at a leisurely pace. It was fun doing it by golf cart. We both love the old houses and the character of the neighborhood. We saw lots of chandeliers hanging in the trees and decorative mailboxes.

After exploring the circles, we crossed Douglass at the Dunedin Ballpark and then headed north on Highland until we ran into the new City Hall construction. Lots of cute houses to look at.

A pond that flows into Cedar Creek, as seen from the shell path that runs along the southern edge of Highlander Park. Hammock Park is to the right of the pond. John took this picture.

On our morning causeway walk, we stopped at Walgreens (at Causeway Boulevard and Alt. 19) for an emergency pit stop. Since we were already stopped, we left our bikes there and proceeded to walk the entire length of the causeway, all the way to the booths at the Honeymoon Island Park entrance. The construction of the additional ticket booth is coming along, as well as the widening of the entrance lanes. It appears they will also be widening the bike and pedestrian path into the park.

We saw a black tipped shark as we crossed the bridge from Ward Island to the causeway, just before Marker One Marina. John got the shot. According to Wikipedia, they are shy and skittish and don't usually pose a threat to humans. No one has ever been killed by a black tipped shark.

Today's fruit bowl: Greek yogurt, navel orange, apple, cottage cheese, blueberries, and strawberries. The fruit bowl was the chaser to my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

According to an article my sister sent to me from the NYT, a person over 65 needs more protein than younger folks need. A senior citizen who weighs 150 pounds needs to consume between 68-82 grams of protein per day. Protein helps to build muscles and heal the body when you have a wound or injury. Good sources of protein: eggs, dairy, fish, poultry, nuts, beans, and lentils.

Examples:
2 TBS of peanut butter equals 8 grams of protein
3/4 cup of Greek yogurt equals 16 grams
1 egg equals 6 grams
1/2 cup of low-fat yogurt equals 13 grams
1/2 cup of black beans equals 7 grams
2 ounces of turkey equals 16 grams
4 ounce piece of salmon equals 23 grams
