Thursday

John put his rescued plant that Mom brought in May outside beside the column so it could soak up the light and humidity without getting direct sun. I think it likes it.

After lunch, we took Toby to the community center at Highlander Park for a walk in the shade. It was 90 degrees and felt like 101, according to the heat index.

It was early in the afternoon, so we decided to head downtown in the go cart, just to drive around and give Toby things to look at and smell.

We crossed Alt. 19 at Monroe and took Victoria Drive to the marina.

It was nice to be able to take the go cart with Toby all the way to the end of the marina.

We hung out at the marina for a while.

Toby got bored with John's texting.

The wind was blowing 10-11 mph from the west all day, which kept it from feeling too hot.

On the way home, we checked out the city hall progress. They've painted the trim on the roof blue, to look like water. You can clearly see three waves in the roof structure. I think it's a brilliant design. I remember seeing the other candidates before they went back to the drawing board and came up with this one. This one is so perfect; the others were so conventional and boring. The waves echo the same design in the community center building.

Look what the owners have done to Stirling Wine! The new paint job looks terrific, much better than the brown color before this.

We met two golf carts at the shell path bridge that connects Highlander Park to Patricia Ave. Our first traffic jam in the go cart. We had to pull off and wait to cross the single lane bridge one at a time.

I read about area Dunedin Art in an article in the weekly newsletter. The article linked to this map on the web. The dots on the map show where there are sculptures; artistic signage; benches, chairs, and bus stops; bike racks; and murals, all in support of public art in the city. The key below lists the artwork:

sculptures

artistic signage; benches, chairs, bus stops; and decorative bike racks

murals

If I had just a little ambition, I would do a scavenger hunt and photograph each piece and write about it in this blog. But I left all my ambition behind in North Carolina back in the early 2000s. I like that the city supports the arts and that it's part of their vision for the city.

When we were planning our morning walk, the weather forecast was iffy again for later in the day when I normally go to the gym, so we drove the go cart to Stirling Park and walked downtown on the Pinellas Trail. John walked back and took the golf cart home while I stopped at Weaver Park to exercise. I figured if I waited until after lunch, I would miss my opportunity.

I'm still easing back into my routine. I did lots of stretching and machine exercises that didn't stress my shoulder.

I'll gradually increase my workout next week as long as I can avoid any pain. So far so good.

Our plan worked: we walked and went to the gym before lunch.

After lunch, we rode our bikes to pick up Toby's yearly supply of heart worm and flea/tick medicine from his vet's office at the corner of Curlew and Alt. 19 and the Pinellas Trail. Normally, we have to fill out a rebate form and include UPC codes and doctor information and then mail it in. But now, the vet's office does it for us, and the company mails us the rebate check. So much better. Anyway, we got surrounded by a thunderstorm that popped up. We high tailed it home at top speed. It never rained--at least not on us.

The sun came back out.

We opted for safer transportation when we went back to the same corner to pick up our New Bamboo take out order. Toby went along for the ride.

Miles walked: 11
Miles biked: 4:42

  1. love the city’s support of the arts, love the new paint colors for Stirling Wine. Much better. I just sat down. Played tennis, took Courtney to Dr and while she was there worked out at Cap 10. Jeff is sailing tonight so I dusted and vacuumed. Getting ready for Supper Club Sat night.

  2. Love John’s plant that mom brought from MEBANE. Pretty pot. It looks like it is glad to be home.
