Tuesday

We finally got some warmth today. The morning started off with a 45 degree walk with us all bundled up. By 2:00, it was 73 degrees and I was at the outdoor gym doing yoga and weights. The winds were light so I got to ride my bike. It was wonderful to be stretching in the sunlight filtered through the trees. After three days of winter weather, we were going a little crazy.

John fixed a delicious pot roast with carrots and potatoes.

We made progress with our box of CDs project. The Apple Store has a chat feature where you can ask questions about their products.

The poor assistant was dealing with the classic old person who didn’t understand “burn CDs.”

But to the assistant’s credit, he or she quickly figured out his audience and explained clearly what I needed to know. And he knew that the Super Drive I was buying was really old technology and I would need an adapter for our new computer. (I think most folks have moved on to streaming their music and stored their CDs electronically many years ago.) The assistant explained why we will need to connect our phones to the computer to get our music onto our phones, since we physically own the music. If we were to buy music today, it would be a digital copy and it would automatically sync with our phones.

The assistant sent me a link to my order, and I was able to go directly to check out.

The Super Drive and cord adapter will arrive Thursday, no trips to the Apple Store in Tampa. The entire experience was really easy. In fact, I started the chat before dinner and finished up while eating.

John’s view is that our music was being held hostage for 6 years (because we inadvertently wiped out the copies of our CDs when we upgraded computers), and we just paid an $80 ransom to get them back (the cost of the Super Drive that Apple removed from the new computer.)

It will be worth it to have all our music back, especially when we lose Sirius satellite radio in a few months. For listening to current music, we can stream music using Alexa in the car.

John and Perry are gradually transitioning to a more efficient way to listen to music, a little behind the young folks. (What’s a CD?)

Our goal is to be able to donate the CDs to the library and get one more box out of the garage once we have all our music stored on our computer and phones. This time we hope to keep the electronic copies safe.

  1. Question. How can I store my CDs to a laptop?

I listen to music by asking Alexa but I do have way too many CD’s that have great music and are not being listened to.

I kept my plants bundled up while we were away in Charleston but when I uncovered them today, they looked sad and frost bit.

Jeff had to go to Lowe’s tonight after. Very full workday. I was washing clothes and our basement flooded which it does every now and then. What a bummer.

  2. Your blog answered my question re CDs after they are transferred to iPhone/computer. I won’t tell you how long it took me last week to order a pair of tennis shoes. Hilarious! However first attempt the shoes were $139.00 and several days later they were $69.00. The same shoe at Norstroms as I walked through last week was $179.00. So glad I couldn’t figure out how to successfully place an order the first try. Dumb dumb and dumber!
