Thursday

Today begins the first day of Pride Month. Our Pride flag with our neighbors’ flag in the background.

We rode our bikes downtown for the 10:30 gay pride flag raising at the new city hall. Pride events have been canceled all over the state because of new laws and the threat of violence. But Dunedin is standing firm.

Our next door neighbor was there and gave us a bear hug. I was wearing my new Mickey Mouse t-shirt.

The mayor, city counsel, and city manager at the flag raising.

The mayor gave remarks saying her remarks were not political. Dunedin welcomes everyone regardless of race, religion, political party or sexual orientation. The irony, of course, is that is political when the conservatives take the position of not being welcoming.

We knew about six people, not counting the politicians, most of whom we’ve met.

My favorite t-shirts at the ceremony

We arrived early to enjoy the new building. Love the art sculpture.

Water droplet

It rained a few minutes before the ceremony.

The stone reminds me of Duke University.

The ceremony meant a lot. I did cry at the mayor’s words about love and inclusiveness. I know it did John a lot of good.

Before the ceremony, we walked down to the marina. We could see it raining in nearby Clearwater.

To the north, just sun and clouds.

John swapped out flags for Pride month.

Great article on President Biden’s Pride Month Declaration
Over 600 anti GLBT laws have been passed across the nation just in 2023.

Biden says that  “we are all "inextricably linked . . . when one group's dignity and equality are threatened, we all suffer."

The Republicans are going to run on the backs of gays, immigrants, and women this election. It’s going to be a long, tough election year.

We had a great afternoon thunderstorm pass through. Got lots of needed rain.

  1. The Dunedin building is beautiful and the service impressive. Yea Dunedin.
Yesterday I finally got some summer plants potted, rearranged some earlier planted pots. Will send pictures when they get to going.
I also took everything out of my garage cabinet and rearranged. Should have taken before and after photos.
Thursday is laundry/pressing day. Took a birthday card to Joan and visited with her and her daughter from Chicago.
Still using electric blanket even though the day temperatures are much better.
Last night we went to a Mebane Funeral Home for our neighbor Glen Hogan’s father. He was 88 and in declining health. Went to dinner with Louise/Peter after visitation.
Busy day coming up tomorrow. Need to make decisions as more than I can logistically do.
    Love to my family.
