The Church of Christ on Pinehurst had this on their sign out front.
We had a very busy morning. We suited Toby up and walked him soon after sunrise, came home and John showered him while I vacuumed and mopped (to remove pollen). We had a bowl of cereal and were out the door on our bikes at 8:00 on our way to the causeway to walk.
The temperature was in the upper 70s, but there were lots of clouds and a pretty good breeze, so it wasn't bad until the last part. At first, we felt a very light sprinkle on our backs, which actually felt pretty good because the sun was blazing in our faces. All of the sudden it started to sprinkle harder. We scrambled for home. When we were about 2 miles from home, we found ourselves in a downpour.
By the time we made it home, we were soaked all the way to the skin. We stripped and toweled off in the garage and left our dripping clothes to dry. It was just a little past 9:30 and we were invigorated. Of course, this being Florida, the sun and blue skies returned in less than half an hour. So what did we learn? In the rainy season, 10% chance of rain means it's going to rain somewhere nearby, maybe not on your street, but in the next block. The skies were beautiful when we left to go walk.
We had the spaghetti special at Bambino's for lunch. We picked up some dog food at the Dunedin Pet Supply on Main Street. They are having their second annual pride celebration on Saturday.
Toby had another good day, allergy wise. We both took turns to work with him to keep his brain engaged.
I did some yard work after lunch, pulling weeds and building up the donuts that protect the sprinkler heads from Mas Fina's big mowers.
I spent the afternoon doing kitchen research before our meeting with the designer tomorrow. I like the cabinets above. Simple, clean lines. Sort of a minimal version of a shaker style. The glass subway tiles are also acceptable for a backsplash.
We also liked these simple cabinets and the waterfall countertop.
This picture shows how to use the countertop material as the backsplash. That might work, but it would be expensive, and it might be boring to see so much of the same material.
Lovely cabinets and backsplash, reminds me of Monticello
Shaker style is acceptable, as is the backsplash. This picture shows how to use a statement light fixture to add color and excitement.
So I started looking for a light fixture replacement for the fixture in the dinette off the kitchen because once the kitchen is done, it's the thing your eyes will go to upon entering the kitchen. It's brass and hideous, with clear and rose colored glass in the light fixture.
John insists on a ceiling fan because this will be our office. A fan will make it more comfortable in the summer months. So I went to google and typed: "beautiful ceiling fans that don't look like ceiling fans" and I found this one. The style is called "bladeless" because the blades are either hidden or acrylic. In this one, the blades are hidden in the center.
It comes in a champaign color or gold. I'll take it to our designer tomorrow and get her opinion. What do you think? Unfortunately, when I'm shopping I never look at prices until I find something I like. This one was over $900! In the past, I've been able to find fixtures I like somewhere else for less.
On the news front . . .
Pat Robertson, the Southern Baptist televangelist and one-time GOP presidential candidate, died today. He said in the 80's that "AIDS was God's way of tending his garden." Among many other hateful things he said about gays, he blamed 9/11 on gays and those who supported abortion saying that the terrorist strikes were punishment from God for those sins. I suppose it's possible he may have helped some people with his ministry on this earth, but I know he caused enormous pain and suffering for many people and that is now his legacy.

Enjoyed the kitchen update. I really liked my Monticello kitchen tile. I’ve seen a light fixture with hidden fan. Neat.
ReplyDeleteI did 6 loads of laundry last night finished up this morning. I returned to GS to work on VBS PROJECT. WILL SEND PHOTOS LATER.
I love like Fla would ban it.
ReplyDeletecan’t wait to talk about kitchen redo.
