Tuesday

We walked Toby at sunrise and then took the golf cart to Stirling Park and walked the Pinellas Trail south to downtown and back from 8:00-9:15. A peloton passed us as they were headed north on Bayshore Boulevard.

There are lots of flags at the Lake Saundra park in our neighborhood.

We took Toby for a golf cart ride for a midday walk. We are so glad to have the golf cart because it allows us to take Toby for a walk without having to walk on the hot streets. I learned today that John didn't get a blister from doing yard work. It was a blister from where the dermatologist burned off a wart on his finger.

There were lots of ducks and their chicks out enjoying the lake.

Toby is telling me that he wants to curl up with me on the settee and take a nap. I'm reading Hamnet, by Maggie O'Farrell. It's historical fiction, meaning it's based on real historical figures and location but the story itself is made up. The story focuses on Hamnet's mother, but also on his father, the never named Shakespeare who is mostly off in London staging his plays. The historical Hamnet (a version of Hamlet as spelled in the 16th century), Shakespeare's child, died during the plague in 1596, four years before writing the play, Hamlet. Hamlet, the play, is about a son avenging the murder of his father. Here's what NPR says about O'Farrell's book:

Hamnet is ultimately a story about how the death of a son haunts his parents, while Hamlet is a tale about how the death of a parent haunts his son. O'Farrell cleverly ties the two together and offers a moving explanation for how Shakespeare channeled his grief and guilt into writing.

The full review can be found here.

I put in a request for the book from the Dunedin library using my phone app several weeks ago. I've been moving up in the queue since then and received a text that the book was now available to download. I have seven days to read 500 pages.

Our sample backsplash tiles are due to arrive tomorrow.
