Friday

We headed to Honeymoon Island after the workers arrived this morning. We renewed our state park pass. They are on sale for half price this month.

Toby loves the feel of sand on his feet. He gets the zoomies.

The temperature got up to 82 degrees today.

Not many people at the beach.

Toby saw an armadillo and a black racer (snake).

We arrived home just in time to see the workers break through the wall.

They cut the bar wall down to countertop height.

The kitchen is now open to the rest of the house.

We can see the front door from the kitchen.

And the TV. The duct in the photo above is coming down. We probably won't put any vent in the ceiling because all of the solutions have shortcomings. Our designer and the company owner are coming Monday morning to look at the space and discuss options. We definitely don't want anything that hangs down in that open space.

The ironing board cut out is ready for drywall.

You can now see the backyard from the laundry room through the kitchen.

Shorter wall

The columns and shelf above look great. It looks like it should have been this way from the start.

They cut the wallboard with the tile attached in the laundry room. We're not putting tile back, just new wallboard, painted.

Laundry room. There will be upper cabinets here whereas before, we had a shelf and drying rod. I think we'll have a drying rod under the upper cabinet and over the sink.

Next up: we'll enjoy the look of our unified kitchen and living room space. The electrician will be coming next week. We'll get to tell him which outlets to remove (telephone, cable, etc.). He (or she) will hang our new ceiling fans and install the wall-mounted controls for them (dimmer and fan speed). He'll also install the accent lights on the shelves in the kitchen and living room. Currently, the lights are fluorescent and sometimes come on and sometimes they don't.

  3. Love love the pics and Toby’s expression! Looks like he is trying to physically hold down the fort.

This may be a mute and expensive thought but ask your designer if you should raise the sliding glass door height so that the sight line is the same around the room.
