Tuesday, not much happened. We met with our designer to reconsider our countertop selection. We were worried that it had too much gray and tan in it. We wanted to look at plain white samples. We narrowed it down to three whites and our original selection. After two hours and lots of stories from our designer, we decided to keep our original selection. The color in it is very faint. From three feet, it looks solid white. And the solid white looked too plain. It was a good exercise for us. Our designer was so patient. She is super busy; they are now running nine months behind. But she stayed right there with us to help us think through our selection as if we were her only customer.
The drywall guy arrived late morning on Wednesday to begin patching the walls. The inspector came by at noon to see the electrical, plumbing, and smoke/fire detectors. After that, the drywall went up pretty fast. The laundry room is above and below.
Above, you can see he got the bottom of the range wall covered with new drywall.
He covered the ironing board hole, and while he was there we asked him to fix the wallboard under the Nest thermostat. Previously, it was attached to the wall on top of a white plastic plate because there was a hole in the wall larger than the device. We both hated the white plate. You can see a picture of the plastic plate below from yesterday. When the wallboard gets mudded, they'll be able to fix the holes around the thermostat. Right now, it has plastic film around it to keep the dust out.
The wallboard guy also cut the vent off at the ceiling. There will be no range vent fan, but that's okay. There just wasn't enough space for it in the ceiling, and we didn't want anything hanging down in the space we just opened up.
Next up: more wallboard work. Someone may come by to install the new water line to the refrigerator. Currently, we have a copper line. These days, they prefer plastic. All I know is that every copper line we've ever owned has leaked at one time or another.

The wall boards makes a great difference. Love the update. I don’t think you will ever miss the vent. Onward and upwards.
ReplyDeleteLooking great. I agree with your countertop selection.
