Friday

I painted the ceiling around the Boss's drywall patch from yesterday at 5:30 this morning before I had my coffee. I thought that the boss would come by today to put it back in place when he came to install our refrigerator. I wanted it to be dry for that. Alas, he never made it which was a huge disappointment to John. He is very excited about the new fridge. But honestly the boss has been in our house every day this week, sometimes twice a day, dealing with things. I've figured out that that's his job: put out fires and follow up. I reminded John that at any time, Ottoson has eight projects in varying stages, from demolition to completion. That's a lot of projects to keep track of, supervise, and troubleshoot. I think we got more than our fair share of his attention this week. Still, the days without a kitchen add up.

I sanded the laundry room door to the garage yesterday and painted it today. It was 75 degrees outside so I could leave it open all day to dry. It looks so much better.

I put wax paper on the hinge side and latch side before we went to bed. According to the Internet, that will keep it from sticking. I also painted very thinly on the parts where paint touches paint. I had to paint twice though.

I went to Ace to get some shelf liner and picked up this closet knob while I was there. I like it okay, but I think I can do better. This one was marked polished chrome, but I think it's actually polished nickel. Our designer has educated us on how to tell the difference: Polished nickel has a faint pink/gold tint, whereas polished chrome is bright silver. I'll return this one and keep looking. Our designer suggested a larger knob here.

I started doing research on door handles and found these. What do you think? Polished chrome for the three bedrooms.

These polished chrome pocket door handles will fit our three pocket doors.

I think these antique brass door hinges will look awful with the new handles. I had a hard time finding polished chrome hinges that will fit, but I was wondering if they might be too bright. I was thinking about satin chrome instead. What do you think?

I found these satin chrome hinges with the identical 5/8 radius at the corners and the same 3.5 inch by 3.5 inch design. It should be a quick swap out. I think we'll hold off on the door hardware until after we finish the bathroom remodel. We want to do the big things first, things we can't do. I can swap out door hardware later. Maybe we will be ready to take on this small project once we recover from the kitchen.

I picked up this plastic shelf liner for under the kitchen sink. I bought two 12 inch wide pieces and cut slits and circles around the pipes. The other piece fit perfectly up to the pipe and covered the slits. John came up with the idea of using the dead space in the corner to store our paint, thus the need for protection. We've learned not to store paint in the garage because it gets too hot in the summer and ruins the paint, and I don't want it stored in any of our closets. I think this will be a good spot for something we don't need access to often.

Or, I may have room for the paint in the laundry room closet.

  1. Like your suggestions. So updated! Nice to see laundry room closet with items so perfectly placed. This will be an exciting phase. Only you would be up painting at 5:30am. Hope refrigerator hook up will happen soon.

  2. I like the less shiny door hardware for bathroom. Love the neat and tidy laundry room closet and under sink shelves. I have started cleaning out linen closet in hall and Jeff’s bathroom closet. Threw away things dated 2001. It felt good and looks so much better. It had gotten out of hand.
