Sunday

We finally got out for a long walk without Toby. It was 67 degrees and sunny. This December has been much colder, wetter, and cloudy than any previous December. We've had many days where there was no sun, and the high temps have been in the 50s, which on the coast makes it very cold.

We've spent many days under the blankets. John is under there somewhere. You can see Toby poking his nose out. He finds the warm spot in the house. Toby and I took a shower together last night. He enjoyed the warm water. John keeps our thermostat on 70 degrees at night. Freezing!

Today, we tested the overhang for the upcoming countertop template. We used a piece of masonite to simulate the bar overhang. Our designer said that 12 inches is the minimum for eating comfortably at a counter height bar. The picture above and below all show a 12 inch overhang. It felt very comfortable for me. I'll try to get John to test it with his long legs tomorrow. The old bar was about 9 inches, but it was taller. Our Blue Bottle house had a short overhang that made eating at the counter challenging.

I think the 12 inch overhang plus the 4-inch knee wall will give us a good distance to the back of the sink.

The bar stool is 13.5 inches deep. According to the Internet, quartz can overhang without support up to 15 inches. After that, it will need brackets, which we don't want.

Here's what a 12 inch overhang looks like on the oven wall as it juts out into the living room.

The corner post disguises a couple of inches.

Here's the stool tucked up under the overhang. We only have two stools, and they will probably stay at the other bar.

Here's a view from the left of the stove, looking out into the living room over the bar.

A view from the entrance.
