Thursday (flooring, day 8)

One tiler worked on the front porch most of the day.

The other two tilers worked on the primary bath, plastering the cement board in preparation for tiling.
The lead tiler will begin tomorrow morning on the decorative tile. Then he'll work on tiling the shower floor and wall. He prepared the window surround this afternoon. He demonstrated the random pattern he's planning. Once the bottom row is randomized, the whole tiles will be laid on top going up.

They are working on making sure the shower valve sticks out the correct distance. The lead tiler thinks they will be about three lines over the minimum.

Our contractor brought by a couple of baseboards for me to paint so that they can install them and the washer and dryer Friday morning. We do all the painting, per our contract. It was a chilly 65 degrees outside.

The baseboards are taller than average, 5 1/2 inches tall. Plain and simple.

By the afternoon, the entry tile was complete. Tomorrow, they'll install the bullnose tile at the door threshold and at the sidewalk.

The grouter was able to do large sections, including the eat-in, kitchen, most of the laundry room, most of the living room and the dining room. He had to leave himself, us, and the tilers paths to the doors and to our room. Tomorrow, we'll spend some time away from home so that the grouter can grout the hallway. Our contractors will be here early to install the baseboards in the laundry and move the appliances back in place.

Living room with grouted tile.

This picture above shows the grouted tile on the right and the ungrouted tile on the left.

Here's the visible part of the schluter trim for the tile.

Here's the backside.

This picture shows the shower floor before tile, sloping down to the drain at the right. There is a tile edge above the shower floor with a piece of schluter. The floor tile above in the picture is the floor that will be under the tub. I think the glass shower wall will be on top of that tile.

This picture shows the drain. There will be a strip of tile behind it with a slight tilt towards the drain.

Another shot of the sloped floor with the schluter above.

This is a good shot to show the beginning of the slope. You can see that the next tile laid will be angled downward. The shower wall will be on top of the tile above, I think. The shower door will be to the left.

Here's where the tub will go. The drain is in the middle while the tub filler is off to the left, near the corner, protected but still visible.

Tonight, we moved the sunroom contents into the living room and dining room portions where the grouter has completed his work.

We almost emptied the sunroom. The tilers said they would help with the dresser and the new fixtures. The tile in this room is so ugly. Pinkish, brown.

We moved the decorative tile out of the back bathroom to save them multiple trips and to keep the grouter separated from the tilers. The tile is on the grouted section in the living room, right outside the primary bedroom, which has not been grouted.

The tilers will install tile in the sunroom, install the bull nose for the front porch, and begin tiling the primary bath tomorrow. They plan to work on Saturday and finish up next Tuesday. Things are definitely getting better with each day. I think this weekend I'll order shower shelves, drawer pulls, and towel hooks.

  1. WOW! What a coordination process. Your project company along with you and John's vision has been a great combination. Thanks for sharing. Quite an undertaking! I don't think this area has a company like you are using.
