Today's project was to clear the perimeter of the floor in the two back bedrooms and closets so that the workers can remove the baseboards and replace them with the updated tall baseboards that are like the others throughout the house.
The eat-in kitchen became the designated storage room since it was mostly empty anyway. We wanted to prepare for the bedroom baseboard project without creating a huge mess in the rest of the house.
We moved our clothes back into the dresser in our room. Most of our clothes, anyway. These just didn't fit. Our new closet system will have 8 drawers, 8 shelves behind doors, 7 open shelves, and 2 hanging sections. It will be nice to have that primary closet put back together. Getting a shower and getting dressed has been challenging the last three months. We should hear on Monday when that shipment will be arriving. We've been stocking up on tools from Ace in anticipation.
Overflow.
The best padding we own, but we lack a rug to fit it. At some point, we'll get another rug or cut it down for one of the smaller rugs we already have. Until we do, we have kept it in the back closet.
We only had to remove the stuff on the floor, thankfully. We took advantage of the opportunity to cull things that we never use and don't want to hang on to. Our goal is always to keep things simple and uncluttered, but it is a goal never fully achieved.
Above is the dismantled former closet from the primary bedroom.
When we get through with the current project and we finish installing the new closet, we'll take down the wire shelving in this closet above and install the old closet here. We'll have hanging space on each end with shelves in the center. These doors will get painted and will get new polished chrome knobs.
The white rug was in our temporary room for three months while construction debris wafted through the house. It was necessary to use it because the laminate flooring was too slippery for Toby. We couldn't help tracking in dirt even with a constant supply of damp towels at the threshold. The rug got dirty, so we put it in the empty space in the bathroom to clean it.
We vacuumed and then used our rug shampoo vacuum, going over it twice. The dirty water container and debris filter says it's better. We'll see how it looks when it dries.
Tomorrow, we might start removing the baseboard molding in the back bedrooms just to help move the project along. We don't think it will take long or be that difficult. The construction boss wanted to begin removing those baseboards Thursday while the crew was here. But the rooms and closets were a disaster, so we asked him to wait, or rather the expressions on our faces asked him. He changed his mind before we could utter a word. I might also try removing the wire shelving in the hall linen closet and painting it.
