Monday [Back Bedroom Flooring and 2nd Bath Remodel, Phase III: Before & After]

Back Bedrooms & Second Bath Before Remodeling

A vision in pink and cream

Gold can-light trim, yellowed exhaust vent

Pink wall tile all around

Cheap laminate flooring in the back bedrooms. Walking on them felt like tap dancing.

Smokey glass and brass light fixtures

The day before demolition, at least it was clean.

We took up the baseboards in the back bedrooms. Our plan was to replace them with the same tall baseboards we were using throughout the house. We planned to keep the laminate, even though we both hated it.

It turned out that there was a wide gap between the wall and the flooring. Our designer suggested a squared off molding to go beside the baseboard to cover the gap.

The gap was an inch.

We didn't like that plan and decided to take up the laminate flooring and the underlying foam base and buy more tile to match the rest of the house.

So, that's what we did. We did the demolition ourselves.

One other thing the contractors did was remove about 10 cable and phone outlets in the two back bedrooms.

We replaced all the baseboards in the house. We did the painting ourselves.

We removed all of the closet and linen doors and cleaned and repainted them.

Back Bedrooms & 2nd Bath After Renovation

New door hardware

We hid the router and cable box in the bookcase that we rescued off the street.

We replaced every single outlet in the house to match our designer's choice for the kitchen.

We replaced every single switch.

Dimmers where needed

Dimmers and fan/light switches

Our plumber installed a non-electrical bidet seat, which works great, a bit less refined than a Toto electric one; however, it was less than a quarter of the cost of the one in the primary bath.

We replaced the fan in the living room with one like this one in the bedroom, slim yet powerful model.

We replaced all of the door handles except the front door.

We replaced the hinges.

We added drawer organizers.

We added under sink mats for the kitchen, laundry, and both bathrooms.

I replaced an outdoor outlet cover.

We painted all of the closet doors and replaced the hardware.

We added doorstops

And handles

New polished chrome pocket door hardware

Exterior hardware

It took 2 1/2 years with months in between each of the three projects for planning, buying fixtures, appliances, flooring, closet modules, and waiting our turn in the cue of the remodelers.
