Monday

A short bike ride to Weaver for stretching and strength training this morning. It was a bit chilly, in the 60s with an 11 mph breeze from the north.

The stucco man came this morning to stucco the outside of the house and fix the window ledge that had deteriorated. He walked around the house with me to assess other stucco issues, some that I had tried to remedy and some that I didn't know what to do. He said that my fixes were good and he wouldn't recommend re-doing anything. As for the other issues, he said it was just loose paint. He said I could scrape it off, apply a rust inhibitor where there was rebar, prime it, and paint it. He said our stucco was in good shape.

We signed a contract with the roofing company for a metal roof. As for scheduling, it will take 2-3 weeks for the factory to produce the roof after they come out and hand measure it. Each piece will be painted and cut at the factory, then brought out to the house. Tearing off the old roof will take a day. An underlayment will then protect the roof. Then they will schedule the installation which will take 3-4 days. The picture above is a roof the company installed. The color is Dove Gray.

The other recommendation if we stick with white for the house color is for Slate Gray. Pictured above, you can see both color samples.

After applying 7 different paints to the outside of the house, we aren't completely sold on any of the colors. The paint we've put on the walls changes color depending on the time of day. It seems the house wants to be white. We could add the color to the front door and possibly other trim. But we will have time to sit with it. We won't paint until the roof is complete. Perhaps with the roof, we will have more certainty about paint color.

I noticed a leak in a dead end pipe when I was inspecting the stucco man's work. It could have been there, but I think he might have accidentally stepped on it and dislodged it. The pipe at one time went to water the lillies and gardenia bush, but they get plenty of water from the lawn sprinklers. It was capped above ground when we first moved in because it didn't have a head on it and was flooding the yard.

The leak this time was coming from below ground. The pipe is surrounded by the foundation as you can see in the photo above. Tight quarters, concrete all around. I kept thinking I would need to call for professional help, but I kept digging.

This dead end pipe was attached below ground and exited to run above ground, capped at the end.

I made a run to Ace to get a new cap to cement on; they can't be reused. I used an old pipe and connector from a previous project.

I cemented the new cap.

Then I screwed the new extension into the underground sprinkler system. If there is ever a problem, I'll be able to find it again. I'll test it and a couple more fixes tomorrow after the cement has time to dry. Then I'll cover the hole.

Pressure washing, preparation, and painting the walls will wait until after the roof is on, probably the first of December.
