We got over 4 inches of rain yesterday. The good news is that we had a day off from painting for the first time since Nov. 7. The bad news is dirt got splattered on our newly painted wall as you can see above.
Looks terrible.
So, while we waited for the walls to dry on the north side for painting, we gently hosed down these low walls and went to Ace to get mulch. We hope the mulch will prevent dirt from getting splattered on the wall when it rains.
We also dug a trench on the inside of the walkway to retain rainwater runoff. We recently removed the black plastic that held the dirt and mulch in place. We're hoping that the trench and "no float" mulch will keep the dirt from over washing onto the walkway.
The house is really not this color. It's blue. John is cleaning the front door in preparation for painting. He's chosen the color finally. Tomorrow he paints. If we don't like it, we have back ups.
I don't know why the iPhone camera can't capture the true color. It's also late afternoon which seems to mess with the color.
Mulch everywhere.
We had enough daylight to do the upper trim along the eve of the roof and the attic vent. We were hoping to put primer on the upper wall but we ran out of time. Tomorrow, we'll prime the upper triangle, the lower wall for the second time where the wall was damaged, and the pony wall where we keep our trash bins.
We remembered to come back and paint the trim along the eve on these two sections. This picture, by the way, captures the color accurately.

I truly hope the mulch will help the splatter.
ReplyDeleteDad and I put in a
French drain on Monticello between us and the Rosenblitts. Pipe with holes laid on a bed of rock, covered with soil then mulch. Hope the mulch will do the trick. The French drain was a pain of labor.
