Saturday

Our backdoor and side door lights arrived.

These are 13 inches. The ones for the entrance are 18 inches.

The temperature warmed up briefly to 64 degrees, but it felt more like 50. But it was warm enough to tackle hanging one of our new lights, the only one that we're not saving for the electricians. All of the others need either structural or electrical modifications. Our old fixture above is about 11 inches.

I thought this one would be easy to hang, but we found the junction box to be extremely shallow, and it stuck out from the wall. Our new fixture needs to lay flat on the wall.

We decided to try to hang it and disguise the gap with caulk.

So I painted the raw wall with primer and then house paint. While the paint dried, I went to Ace Hardware to buy some white silicone caulk. We have several tubes of caulk, but none were white silicone.

We got it hung and we think it's beautiful. We like the way the light sprays onto the wall at the bottom. That's going to look cool with the column fixture for the front of the house. That fixture has the same design.

Looks good off, too.

I applied gobs of white silicone caulk to seal the back, top, and bottom.

Nighttime view

Before you hang it, you can choose the light color: 3000, 4000, or 5000 kelvin, or yellow, neutral, or bright white. We chose neutral and plan to use that color for the yard lights, too.

We spotted a bald eagle in Lake Saundra park on one of our walks.

Really beautiful bird

  1. I love your new light fixture. What a great selection. I would love something different than the contractor's look. Great job!
