Sunday

Dee Dee got to see the sunrise this morning on the causeway. It was 79 degrees. I took a Yeti full of coffee.

She’s retaining lots of fluid and has not had much of an appetite for the last several days. She takes her medicine in rice and ground beef balls that I make in a teaspoon. It usually takes about 7-8 balls to get her to take all of her meds—some pills get rejected so I have try again with another ball. Some get multiple rejections. Patience is required.

Then she doesn’t eat again for 12 hours when she gets her meds again—another 7-8 teaspoons. She will finally eat a small dinner after her final walk of the day. She’s losing the little bit of fat that she had put on.

We bought some pet vitamins and calcium carbonate online for homemade dog food to ensure that she gets a balanced diet. But we have to get her to eat for the supplements to do any good.

She looks bloated and not perky as she has been. But she’s enjoying her many walks and naps.

We dropped Dee Dee off and went back to walk on the causeway before it got too hot.

Then we took a picnic lunch to Weaver Park on our bikes and found a shady picnic table overlooking the sound. We talked and watched the boats go by.

We took an hour nap after lunch.

On Monday, I begin my last month at work. The first two days will be for meetings and professional development. Then the next 8 are for working on a special project for the department. The remaining 6 days will be vacation days that I will lose if I don’t take them.

After that, I’ll be settling in to my new life.

Miles walked: 7.9
Miles biked: 5.6
