Wednesday Cycle Meter

Do you see the rainbow at the end of the path?

How about now?

We took Dee Dee out to the island about 8:30 this morning.

The skies were beautiful, filled with a variety of clouds.

We took Dee Dee home and decided to find some shade to walk in. So we rode our bikes downtown, parked at the old train station (history museum), and walked south towards Clearwater.

There's a pretty good tree canopy over about 80 percent of the trail.

Home Plate is serving out back because of the pandemic.

We walked all the way to Stephenson's Creek, which the trail crosses.

We stopped to look at the fish swimming below.
And we spotted at least two manatees swimming below us. You might be able to see his shadow in the middle of the picture above and below.

Same ole lunch.

Dee Dee's homemade lunch looks as good as ours! She gobbled it all down. Then we took her to the Fine Art Center to walk it off in the shade.

I discovered the data tab on my Cycle Meter app on my phone. Here are some interesting statistics that may be of particular interest to my brother-in-law, the engineer and cyclist.

2020
cycle events: 111
Distance: 1,628 miles
Ride time: 141 hours, 38 minutes
Calories: 63,339
Average distance: 14.67 miles
Average ride time: 1 hour, 16 minutes
Average calories: 571
Average speed: 11.50 mph

2019
cycle events: 79
Distance: 942 miles
Ride time: 88 hours, 31 minutes
Calories: 35,507
Average distance: 11.93 miles
Average ride time: 1 hour, 07 minutes
Average calories: 449
Average speed: 10.65 mph

What jumped out as significant? Our average speed has increased almost 1 mph, probably because of us both having electric bikes since May. Average distance has increased over 2 miles per ride (almost 3 miles). The average ride time is about the same. We are going further and a bit faster.

It's not surprising that we've ridden more miles this year. I was here in January for a week or so, and I've been here continuously since mid March. Last year, we didn't have the bikes until mid-March, but didn't ride them until May-August and ten days in October and a couple of weeks in December.

Our ride time per ride will be restricted because Dee Dee is on a diuretic and has to pee about every 2-3 hours.

The app is programmed to stop counting miles and time whenever you are not moving. It also counts ascents and descents but . . .  around here that is not very useful information.

I also rediscovered the map feature in the Cycle Meter app, which shows our route in blue from yesterday: from home, to the causeway, to the Honeymoon Island trail in the woods and back: 1 hour, 5 minutes and 14.31 miles.

After lunch today, we couldn't decide whether to make more coffee or take a nap. So we took a nap and then made coffee. Ha! We were so tired and sleepy!

John made refried beans and rice and I made a salad for dinner.

A bike ride before sunset to the island.

Miles walked: 7.0
Miles biked: 18.2
