We walked down to the drawbridge for our evening walk last night and caught the most beautiful sunset.
We had an uneventful morning walk on the causeway, but after lunch we rode our bikes to Wall Springs Park, north of Dunedin. We took the loop inside the park past the famous spring, and then on the way out, we noticed that a new trail had opened up, just inside the park entrance.
This picture above shows the beginning of the new trail. The exit from the park to the Pinellas Trail is to the right of the shot. This new trail has been blocked for months and months.
We took off exploring. The trail was paved and very wide, with lots of twists and turns.
After a few miles, we passed the entrance to the girl scout camp, Wai Lani. We passed that and kept going until we arrived at the pier above, extending into St. Joseph Sound.
Near the pier, was an overlook, similar to the one inside Wall Springs Park, but not as elevated.
On the way out, we noticed the parking lot and restrooms. And beyond the lot were walking trails. Since they appeared wide and safe (despite the alligator, snake, and coyote warning sign), we decided to explore. Below you'll see a close up of the map at the top of the page.
The close up shows the Pinellas Trail at the bottom right (6.5 miles from home). Wall Springs Park is at the bottom to the left, and the new trails are on top. The dirt trails are top and to the right.
There were two looping trails, with some surprising changes in elevation
(for Florida). We had a good time, and both of us wanted to return.
