Thursday

The moon above our house last night before bedtime.

The moon this morning on our pre-dawn walk around the neighborhood.

We took our coyote sticks with us in case we came upon a wandering coyote. They are afraid of people, but . . . it's dark, and you don't want to come upon one without warning or being able to scare them away. I haven't seen one (only pictures), but John has and he says they are surprisingly tall.

Last night's sunset walk around the neighborhood.

We enjoyed our 8:30 causeway walk this morning. It was 66 degrees when we started and 73 when we finished. Winds were mild at 7 mph. The high today was 79 degrees. We kept our windows open all day.

We both took a nap this afternoon. I raked some leaves getting ready for Mas Fina to come for mowing tomorrow.

Our next door neighbor showed me a contraption he has for picking citrus from high in a tree. He's going to put it together this weekend and show me how to harvest the hardest to reach avocados. There are still dozens left.

The neighbors with the Christmas chandeliers in their tree came by to invite us down this weekend to sit on their new pool lanai and get acquainted. I took them some avocados a week or so ago. Our bike route out of the neighborhood goes by their house, so we see them frequently and say hi as we pass.

Tuna steaks and kale for dinner.

The end of the month signals the time to take stock of our walking and biking. Here are the latest figures for this month and the previous three months:

September Walking Average per Day
8.5 miles

August
6.3 miles

July
6.7 miles

June
5.8 miles

September Biking
23 rides*, 412.04 total miles, Avg distance for those 23 days: 17.91 miles

August
24 rides, 355.91 total miles, Avg distance: 14.83 miles

July
23 rides, 274.26 total miles, Avg distance: 11.92 miles

June
20 rides, 264.25 total miles, Avg. distance: 13.21 miles

*We don't bike every day, but when we do, we leave the Cyclemeter app on for the day, so that we get a cumulative total for all the rides that day. In other words, in September we rode our bikes more than 23 times. Some days, we might ride two or three times a day, but the total miles will be counted once for the entire day. Another way of looking at it, we rode somewhere in September on 23 of the 30 days. On seven days, we didn't ride at all.

Today's Bike Route

Miles walked: 10.3
Miles biked: 11.28

  1. Love the moon shots. I am trying to find new bike routes that are not on busy streets. One day I explored Ardmore. Only had to cross Stratford one time at a light. Yesterday I explored Sherwood Forest. I only had to cross Silas creek at a light. It is so big that I got lost which made my route longer but I want to go back because ther is so much that I didn’t see.
