Wednesday

We have had a pretty laid back day, at least by our standards. We walked the causeway this morning after our pre-dawn coyote neighborhood walk. The temperature was in the upper 70s. It was mostly cloudy, with a few spots of blue.

The hash marks indicate a car crossing over the Causeway Trail. The stripes don't go all the way across because it makes for an annoyingly bumpy ride on a bicycle. It's the same principle for speed bumps. Traffic engineers always leave a section in the middle for bicycles to pass through safely and comfortably.

Our neighbor's Halloween chandeliers by night.

The skies cleared towards the afternoon. The cloud in this picture looks like a wind sock. Either that or some take on Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam.
I always enjoy the blue, white, and green colors, even if there is no recognizable shape.

The New York Times reports today that the New England Journal of Medicine, the world's most prestigious medical journal did something it has never done before in its 208-year history: it took a political stance on a president and his administration. The NEJM editorial says that the administration has responded so poorly to the pandemic that it had "taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy." The editorial went on to list the many specific failures.

Here are some of the key passages from the NEJM editorial that the Times quotes:

"Instead of relying on expertise, the administration has turned to uninformed 'opinion leaders' and charlatans who obscure truth and facilitate the promulgation of outright lies."

"When it comes to the response to the largest public health crisis of our time, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent. We should not abet them and enable the deaths of thousands more Americans by allowing them to keep their jobs."

"The pandemic would strain any nation and system, but Trump's rejection of evidence and public health measures have been catastrophic."

Miles walked: 8.6
Miles biked: 3.76 (just a quick trip to Publix)
