Friday

We rode our bikes with Toby in tow to Wall Springs Park today. It was a beautiful day: 75 degrees and sunny. This was Toby's longest trailer ride. He got fussy a few times, so we're going to try hooking the trailer back up to my bike and see if that helps. He may find it comforting to have John behind him where he can see him. Maybe my driving is better! Ha. We might try bringing a tennis ball with us for the next trip. That's about the only thing he really loves, other than food.

Speaking of food, we thought when we first got him that he was going to be a grazer, but that was just nerves. He eats like all our other dogs: empties the bowl in under a minute. Currently, he's eating one cup, three times a day, plus a lot of treats throughout the day.

The spring lake was so clear today. Look at all the fish! The recent rains mean that the spring was pumping huge amounts of water to the surface. There was quite a bit of fresh spring water run-off into the sound.

The ride to the park on the Pinellas Trail was fun.

We chose the park because of the shade. We've read that white dogs with pink noses and thin coats are susceptible to sunburns. We did research on SPF for dogs. It sounds like a pain to apply. I can imagine how a wiggle-worm puppy would react to that. You're supposed to keep them from licking it off for 15 minutes. Yeah, right.

So then we started looking for hats and visors. I'm reminded of the yellow, flowery visor we got for Dexter. He wore it while sailing. It cracked us up when this big lab with a prissy visor would bark at passing sailboats, barking with such enthusiasm that his front paws would lift off the deck.

We'll keep thinking about this sunburn issue. For now, we'll stick to early morning walks and walks in the shade during the middle of the day. His skin is really pink and you can see it through his fur, especially around the ears, snout, butt, and belly. His lips, nose, toes, and one eyelid are pink, too. His eye that's surrounded by the brown patch has a brown eyelid. Freaky!

We walked early this morning on the causeway.

Toby had a very busy day. It began at 4:15 a.m. We took a short nap after lunch. I think we're headed for an early bedtime tonight.

John made chicken in the crock pot with marina sauce. We had some leftover rice and black-eyed peas. I made a quick salad.
