Toby woke up at 2:00 a.m., but after a pee pee break and some coaxing went back to sleep and slept until 5:30 when Alexa's classical music came on to wake us up.
He saw his doctor this afternoon at 2:00 and got good news. The doctor could not detect any broken bones or dislocated shoulder or torn ligaments. He thinks the injury was a deep bruise, so he recommended finishing the anti-inflammatory and pain medication from the ER hospital. He didn't think Toby needed anything beyond today's 24-hour dose, but we can call in a request if necessary. Toby still has a limp.
Nevertheless, John and I felt relief after his appointment.
This is Toby's vet. "Allen's Ridge" is the name of the geological feature in this section of the county. Caladesi, of course, is the name of the island across the sound from Dunedin. The vet's office is located on the corner of the main drag that leads to the causeway and Honeymoon Island where there's a ferry that will take you to Caladesi. The name confused us until we learned about "Allen's Ridge."
We read in the local news that an observation tower is being built on Caladesi Island. We saw workers loading supplies on the barge docked on the causeway.
We took Toby to see the gulf after his visit so he would have a distraction from the examination. It was 64 degrees.
The wind was blowing over 16 mph, so there were lots of waves.
We took a walk around the block and left Toby unattended and uncaged for the first time. John rigged up a Zoom meeting so that we could watch him on our walk. (You can see Toby and the living room on the computer monitor above.) We didn't enjoy the walk very much for looking at the phone to see what he was doing. He went back and forth from the front door to the garage door. He squealed and whined a lot. Towards the end, he began singing like an adult dog, the first time we've heard his adult voice. It was a beautiful howl, some primitive signal to his pack that he's alone and left behind.
Good news is that he didn't destroy anything. We need to keep taking short walks like this so that he can become comfortable being left alone.

All the birds were gathered at the lake.
Even a lone pelican.
Toby has two dispositions that match his Janus-like face: he's sweet, lazy, and cuddly. Or he's ramped up running full speed from one end of the house to the other, nipping whatever he passes, making flying leaps on and off furniture. Basically, an uncivilized demon dog. Fortunately, the manic phase doesn't last more than five or ten minutes, unless he collides with the wall! Today was especially exasperating, probably because he's been restricted and doped up since Saturday afternoon. He had some pent up puppy energy that came spewing out.

Love that you were able to spy on your dog while walking . I have always wanted to know what our dogs do when we leave.

ReplyDeleteOh, that movie Pam made us go see on vacation in Venice? The Truth About Cats and Dogs. The one Dad slept through!
