Saturday

Our fifth day of winter today, it was 37 this morning when we woke up and only got up to 48 degrees this afternoon. It was bitter cold. That makes two days of winter weather back to back. But tomorrow the high will be 63 degrees and mostly sunny.

John fixed a batch of vegetable soup yesterday. Good timing.

The neighbors' wood stork trying to stay away from Toby.

We drove to the coastal section of Wall Springs Park early this morning to walk Toby, but it was so cold he turned around and headed to the car. "No way," he said. The reason we went to the park in the first place is that we have heated seats in the car and we can crank up the heat, so we didn't mind the long drive and short walk. Too cold to poop.

He was more than happy to stay in the warm car. He has no undercoat; in fact, you can see his pink skin through his fur it's so short and thin. I think we need to buy that boy some clothes!

On the way home from the park, we drove out to the Island just to look around. I lowered the window in the car to get this picture, but stayed inside.

For puppy mania this afternoon, we drove Toby to the causeway and sat in the car again with the heat running.

We took a few walks in the neighborhood.

After lunch we turned on the electric blanket and all went to sleep to get warm.

Later in the afternoon, when Toby was running around, he got tangled up in the cords of the blanket controls. Instead of stopping to see what was happening, he just sped up faster, which brought the controls after him like a whiplash. The controls passed him and freaked him out. Everything, including him, went crashing into the walls.

But mostly, we tried to keep Toby sane without exercise. John thought a big hug would help.

Or a lesson in how to do the dishes.

I resorted to my training him how to "heal" by following me in the house as I doled out treats every now and then. It calms him down and forces him to focus and allows me to get steps in.

Morning snuggle time.

His weight is up to 44 lbs today.

Somehow, we did manage 3.3 miles of walking today. No biking, although we did see folks biking.

  1. I finally suited up for a cold walk today. I didn’t even want to know how cold it was. Got stopped 3 times in the neighborhood so I took your advise and headed over to the villas. The Villa/ residences are older and I knew they would not be out. My favorite photo is Yoby at the sink and you and Toby. Miss you.
