Wednesday

Toby enjoying some sun in the sunroom. It got up to a pleasant 72 today.

We went for walk around the community center this afternoon.

Toby helped me pick up leaves.

I watched Toby while John was on a phone call during puppy mania time.  To distract Toby, I took him to the garage. I sat and read while Toby explored.

Somehow he got tangled up in the bikes and brought one of them crashing down. It didn’t land on him, but he cut his back leg on the sprocket jumping through the frame.

It left a bloody gash and a greasy sprocket outline in his white fur. I couldn’t believe he got hurt so quickly—on my watch.

I cleaned up his wound, loaded him in the car, and drove to Honeymoon Island. In the car crate, he is always good.

We’re not sure if he needs a stitch or not. It’s a deep gouge. We’ll reevaluate tomorrow.

Nothing like having a puppy to keep you humble.

I set a daily alarm for 3:00 p.m. so I can be proactive for puppy mania each day. During that 2-3 hour period, I need to be 100% present to keep him engaged and out of trouble.

The obvious thing to do is walk him, but he’s very much a “pack” dog. He won’t leave our property unless we both go. He sits and refuses to budge. Even when I went to the island today, he got out and peed, refused to walk, and returned to the car.

So it looks like my plan will be to put him in the car and drive around.

I’m glad that puppy mania is only in the late afternoons, and most of the time John and I can work together.

Miles walked: 5
Miles biked: .25

  1. Toby is hilarious!!!! Hope his wound heals quickly and not need stitches. Thanks to you and John for your calls. We love hearing from you.
We are grilling tomorrow night. Not quite ready to tackle numerous dishes. Plan to assemble twice baked potatoes, and a garden salad. Love. Mom
