Wednesday

Ducks on the pond

Lake Saundra never disappoints.

We put Toby in his crate and took two neighborhood walks. The temperature got up to a chilly 63 degrees. No joke. I wore long sleeves and a wind breaker; John wore his Columbia heavy winter coat. Tomorrow temps return to the 70s for a while.

This house has a lot of blow-up decorations for Christmas.

This one is hidden under the trees.

Our neighbor shared a video that his door bell took last night at 3:00 a.m. of a coyote walking from our house right by his front door. The coyote, about the size of Toby, was stalking a cat that was also recorded about 3 minutes before that.

Toby woke up at 3:15 this morning, restless and walking all over the house. After about 45 minutes, I scooped him up and pulled him under the covers with me. He fell asleep within seconds and we all slept until Alexa woke us up at 5:30.

Now that I just typed the previous two paragraphs, I wonder if Toby woke up because of the coyote? I didn't even think about the time coincidence until now. Even though coyotes are stealthy hunters, they do give off a scent that perhaps Toby picked up on. Dogs have a nose that's 40,000 times more sensitive than ours. It might explain why he was so restless. He was going from room to room looking out.

Toby seemed to make progress with his healing today. He limped a little bit towards the late afternoon and whenever he would try to run. But he didn't yelp or hold his leg up today. We gave him another dose of pain/anti-inflammatory medicine at the usual 4:00 p.m. time. We have one more dose left. Toby's doctor didn't call today, which is probably good because we didn't have much to report.

We were working full time today to keep Toby occupied without walking or playing too rough. No one got a nap, so we should all sleep well tonight, if the coyotes leave us alone.

John made beans and rice for dinner, the best yet.

  1. I bet Toby did smell the coyote. Ya’ll are getting a dose of parenting. Glad he had a good day.
It was so cold here today I didn’t even want to know the temperature. 😢. Was that a lady in the background sitting in her driveway next door to the blow ups? The Malones are the only ones with blow ups in the Highlands. That usually says children in the house.
