It was another beautiful day in Dunedin. This morning's early walk was in the low 60s. Our causeway walk was in the mid 60s. The afternoon was in the low 70s.
In the picture above there is a dolphin breaking the surface to the left of the channel marker. The paddle boarder in the foreground we saw when we first began our walk. It was a great day for paddle boarding or kayaking. The water was smooth, winds light.
If this had been a weekend, all those kayaks would have been in the water. On our "to do" list is a trip to Caladesi Island via kayak. I've read that there are miles of canopied kayak trails on the sound side of the island among the mangroves. The water is described as clear and the bottom sandy, so you can see all sorts of fish.
Toby's not sure if he wants to rest on the sofa or go somewhere.
He decided to sit down and think it over some more. He was so sweet and cuddly this morning. I love that dog. It's so hard to leave him in the crate when we go for our morning walks. I can't do it; I make John put him in there. I know it's good for him to learn to be alone.
I did some house chores while John ran an errand. It's a lot more work to clean toilets, vacuum, and mop with a puppy around. Toby wants to be in the middle of everything.
I've learned that when he is being obnoxious, it's because he's bored and wants to interact with you. So the best thing to do is to stop what you're doing and play with him for about 10-15 minutes. He will give his all, and then he will get tired and take a nap or play by himself. The point is to listen to him and not try to punish or discipline him because that will be counter productive.
We got take-out from New Bamboo in the Causeway Plaza. This time we tried their Egg Foo Yung, splitting an order. Delicious. John said, "This meal was like your father's country fried steak favorite with all that rich gravy."
It's been a pretty relaxing day. John has been binge watching "The Great British Bake Off" on Netflix. I try not to watch it because I get sucked into it and have to watch the entire season. You get attached to the contestants, and you want to see who wins. It's hard to believe but the show can be very poignant as the contestants try to please the demanding judges, sometimes cooking things they have never cooked before. There are spectacular failures and successes.
I can't believe I ever worried about meeting people in retirement. Even in a pandemic, we've met so many people, mostly neighborly acquaintances, but still we're able to carry on conversations and get to know them better and better. Because we walk so much, people stop us all over and say hi or ask about Toby if we are without him.
Miles walked: 10.0
Miles biked: 0

I thought we kayaked to Calidese and got stuck in the middle due to shallow water.
ReplyDeleteI love your parenting skills!
We did. But we went to the gulf side. The kayak trails are on the sound side.
